The going rate for a great copywriter

So hello, I've been browsing around the forums and I wanted to ask
what is the true going rate for a copywriter?
Now I'm looking for someone to do my lead generation page, now I know I can get quotes but honestly I'm going to look like a tire kicker because I'm saving up for a great one, and I'm not looking to hire one like ASAP.

so if anyone could help me out that would be great

Rates are all over the place for copywriters. Some won't do
a landing page for less than $1000 - others just starting out
would be eager to do it for free. Many of the better
writers are somewhere in between and many will give you
a break if they like the concept of your business or see that
you're a real business person with resources to invest in
buying media and growing a sizeable customer file. In short:
they're looking to partner with business people who "get it"
and aren't trying to cobble together a profitable direct marketing
business on a wing and a prayer (which many are).

If you're spending your own money on media, you'll
be wise to hire the most competent (and savvy to your market)
writer you can afford. A savvy writer will tell you if you're
barking up the wrong tree with a poor appeal and work
with you to craft a position for your business that gives you
an edge on your competition and appeals to the dominant
emotional pullers in your market niche - the "grab ya's" that
get people to do what you want.

The good news and bad news is there is no "true going rate."

What's also good news is professional copywriters will not treat you as a tire kicker, they would respect your desire to save up and I'm sure you'll get a lot of ideas and tips.

Okay, Thanks for both of your comments And

Loren - my business is not in the IM industry, It's actually in real estate and helping people save their homes from foreclosure. So my business has been good but my conversion rates are no where that I would like them to be. I'm actually surprised that I even convert on my current page :S to tell you the truth.
Now I here is my other question - how would I find the most savy writer in my market ? Would getting someone from an entirely different background help or hurt my copywriting ? Since they would have a fresh/unique perspective to my industry?

Rick - Thanks for the kind words Rick, I think I might contact a few and see where it goes.

    Hi there Red

Rick and Loren make excellent points.

I think your best bet is to go around and ask some people for quotes Copywriters who have a lot of steady business might not be willing to take on your project for less than their going rate, but there are copywriters looking to pad their portfolio that can help you out for considerably less.

But of course, it can be a gambling game - copywriters who charge more usually can do so because they have the skills and material out there to back it up. I don't mind working with pricing, but there is a limit to how low I'll go (the same can be said about most experienced copywriters).

Could you share a bit about your project with us? EDIT: after I posted this I saw you made another post mentioning it was about real estate. It's hard to say, a person with experience in the market may know the little secrets and how to bring out the best in it, but a new fresh writer may find an untapped way of bringing those conversions in

wow, thanks for all your responses everyone

Bill Jewels - I can't Pm anyone yet because I havent hit 50 posts

virginiad - PM me for that because I dont want to list my url in the thread.

arfasaira - I missed that but thanks for the link.

DanielleLynnCopy - you do make good points Danielle. The gamble is really on both sides whether to hire someone who's niche is that or to venture off with someone new. Personally I'm open to either.
