First banner ad to grab my attention in a long time

I was pocking around the web yesterday and stumbled on the first ad to grab my attention in a long time. It didn't look like most banner ads with fancy graphics to grab your attention, but this one was totally different and I just had to click on it to see where it would take me. Not sure how long this banner ad has been around or how affective it is, but if it got me (a person that never clicks on ads) than it's probably doing well.

I took a screenshot of the banner ad and the landing page. The arrow points to an image of the landing page. I grayed out the link of the ad since I'm not sure if it would be appropriate to show it.

I'm not a copywriter, so I would like to ask the pros here what they think of this banner ad, and if they think something like this really works and why? I think we can all learn something here, well at least me :-)

Image is attached.

The "box" part has been running for a long time. I did the same thing and saved it in my swipe file maybe ~ a year ago. The stuff around it is new (at least to me), maybe cause response is starting to sag or they're just testing...

    Cheers,

I really see my self using something like this. It leaves you guessing and wondering what's the next big thing.

Just a wild guess, but it probably has something to do with devices like the iPhone and iPad. They can do almost everything a PC can do. BlackBerry is also coming out with a new tablet PC called the PlayBook to rival the iPad.

I've seen that ad on yahoo news pages, as well as other really good banner ads on yahoo, related to golf and dating. Really good ones.
