Homeless asking for money?

I was having lunch today at Carl's Jr, having my favorite Super Star meal deal, and there was a homeless person inside hitting people up for change as they went into the dinning room to sit down. There's a good deal of homeless people here in Vegas but that's besides the point.

I was obviously a prospective target, just like a visitor coming to your sales page, opt-in, etc, and his opening line, kinda like your sales header, was, "Hey big guy, could you spare a few quarters."

"Hey Big Guy," Now yes I am 5' 11" and about 265 but from hearing him ask the same question was interesting. To most all the men, it was "Hey big guy" and to the women it was "Excuse me mam, but..."

This got me thinking about sales headlines!

Exactly what impression is our sales headlines attracting? Are we repeating, or using the same copy all the time? Is our headline copy targeted to a certain gender? To the prospect, does it sound like something they've been seeing at almost every sales page they visit?

Interesting questions and I think giving a little more thought to our sales page headlines might be a good idea. And not come off like a homeless guy asking for some spare change too might be good.

    so, did you give him any money? I tend not to give the homeless money directly, but in the past have bought a couple of them sandwiches or a meat pie.

      Yeah, I do the same thing.
      But remember, you make your own world.



      To the OP:
      I've met only one other guy from Vegas that does marketing, very interesting. I live in Summerlin, cool to know other Internet marketers are out here.

        There's actually a couple Meetup's that go on weekly, and monthly, here too. Have you ever attended any?

    No I didn't give him any money. But I always listen to their open line and if it's good, or creative, then yes I give them a few dollars.

    That's why I was listening to his speech for each person. If he was changing it up, after seeing it's not working, or something I might have given him something on the way out. But the same lines over, over and over? It's kinda like using the same headline over, over and over when it hasn't produced anything yet. At what point doesn't it come time to change the plan.

    This is a big one. A lot of IMers in particular are very "turned off" to certain classics - "who else wants" and "do you make these mistakes" are the biggest ones. Understand your market and what they want to see.

      I've tried "Who Else Wants to Make These Mistakes" to no avail.

      Not a good headline...

    Great point! Last week I notice myself using exactly the same opening or salutation phrase in all you my videos! And I just change it, intentionally.

    I just notice by myself, but was something I was doing for 2 years in a row now. So you comment comes to me exactly at the right moment.

    This not only happens on headlines, email salutations, email subjects, but almost we made repeatedly over and over again.

    Its easy to get into a rut doing the same thing over and over again.
    Re think what the purpose is of the headline is, who you are marketing to and be sure that you tell your prospect specifically what they are going to be reading about (what you want them to buy). Here are a few types of headlines : How to, Reason Why, Question, New Headline and the list goes on.

      That is very true. But it is also true that some things get changed because *WE* are too used to it, and don't take into consideration that new people may not have ever heard it before.

      Changing something based on our own feelings rather than our customers can be a not-so-good experience for them. Most people like the feeling of sameness. YMMV.
