Copywriting and Ad Campaigns

Would you consider it still a form of copywriting when you devise an ad campaign that creates BUZZ? I mean I believe it is so but then again I'm all about the less is more theory and actually strive on making my sales copy as short as possible in order to get the fish biting and in turn...in the door. I actually love pushing the envelope to that finite line just before offensive.

Recently I was asked to create a sign that would make people stop and want their pictures taken with it. Not only that but also to create the biggest buzz of any sign in the country (Costa Rica). Well I came up with something spectacular but the problem is...it's not getting used...JUST YET...and now I get to wait while this GENIUS idea sits on the shelf. Seriously though...it was one image. Four words. Nothing else. We all felt (aside from big wig) that this had the potential to go viral on the Net. The market I was targeting quite simply did not have much creative spark in their marketing campaigns of the past 15-20 years. Thus leaving me with a free range.

Anyways...back to my original question. Do you think that this is still in the copywriter realm to create "buzz marketing" via signage etc.

    @ Don Halbert,

Yes buzz marketing via signage is still in the Copywriting realm, at least according to me. Putting that four words together which can create a buzz and go viral and choosing a picture of something that can influence people to stop dead on their place and click a photo for themselves is not a game of any Tom Dick and Harry.

A creative guy can make various designs and pictures with his editorial skills, but what will hit hard on the target is what the copywriter knows.

    I vote for your Don.

Remember what Gary always said? The client is almost NEVER right. For that reason my ingenius ad campaign was shelved. For fear of the unknown and possibly offending "some people".

Anyone in the field will have had some great ideas get shelved I'm sure. Sux. But such is life.

Love the saying, "This is it. **** it. It is what it is."

I would say so as creating something that people talk about is excellent proof on your good copy writing skills.
