Graphic Headlines v Text Headlines

I know testing is probably the answer, but in your experience and testing, which works better, a graphic headline or a text headline?

    I've read somewhere that graphic headlines work best. Don't remember on which of the top copywriters blog.

    Personally, I prefer graphic headlines.

    As always, test, test and ... test.

    Graphic headlines give you more typographic control than HTML and let you add visual sizzle.

    However, a shitty headline with a 3 pixel stroke, metallic gradient and the coolest doodles ever seen... is still a shitty headline.

    That said, I do personally like graphic headlines for the reasons mentioned above, especially if there is no header graphics or other visual distractions. It definitely makes the headline "pop". Even just a simple drop shadow under the headline can give a more polished look to the type.

    Same thing with subheads and call-outs. A nice graphic testimonial quote as a graphic element within the body copy both reinforces the message and looks great.

    The problem with anybody else's test results is that they are not YOUR test results from YOUR headline and YOUR offer. While they may yield some insight, nothing can give you the data you're after except your own testing.

    Ugh everybody is looking for rules, you have to stick to principles.

    Its all about getting attention. And testing. There is no hard and fast rule to it. The only hard and fast rule is that people continually look for hard and fast rules about marketing.

    The key is TESTING. Dont trust peoples opinions, most of the time they're wrong.

    Hello,

    I love that font! And the style too. It inspired me to create something similar using one of my favorite fonts: Rubrica!

    I use to create a simple flash banner with the image and a nice <H1> text header. The page source code handles everything: It shows flash to a visitor with flash installed and it shows text to the search engines, in order to get be indexed.
