What's wrong with this salespage?

Hey guys,

The problem I've been having with my site(s) is 'conversion.'

Do you mind checking out this sales page www(dot)bestkidskaraokemachines(dot)com

It's brutal I know... I just don't know how to change it.

what would you do to make this page convert?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    The wordpress theme is thesis...

Please do not get offended by this, but the first impression that I get when looking at your website is that it looks unprofessional.

Just think of it this way. If you were interviewing someone for the position of COO for your company, would you hire them if they came to the interview ungroomed, in a florescent hat, plaid shorts, and a wife beater? Probably not.

Unfortunately, this also applies to web pages. Your web page is the face of your business. If your web page looks unprofessional, your business will also be deemed unprofessional, and will not be trusted.

The good news is that the problem is easy to fix. Since you are using WordPress, I recommend that you use headwaythemes to design your web page, if you do not want to hire someone. Just make sure that you use a nice looking header image. This is something else that your current page is lacking.

not offended at all. I agree with you. The theme I'm using is thesis and should be able to look professional when properly set up.

The header's a good idea, but is there any other quick suggestions/alterations I could make? I'm thinking of eliminating the sidebar altogether..

  • You have a really open ended question.

It looks like you are just using a very generic wordpress template, and haven't really done much work at all. (You may have written the articles, but that's not much). No idea who you are, or why I would want to purchase from you.

The karaoke machine/images you've used also looks like a $5 toy, but when I click to purchase it says $133 which looks way over priced. It looks like you just plastered a bunch of stuff (aka 'crap' ) on your site, and hoped someone would buy. If you saw that site -- would *you* buy it?

Bottom line, it just looks like a cheap site with no credibility, and I'm assuming no traffic. You need to take a step back & really re-evaluate it.

slightly harsh post.... I already mentioned it looks brutal. I'm just starting out at this game, and yes, I just threw this page up.

I don't mind doing work at all. I would prefer to know what changes to make first though. I could fiddle around with the site aimlessly for weeks, but figured I could save a bunch of time be learning the steps from a the experts on the warrior forum.

I was hoping post could help me save time..... as I am just starting out. Any constructive help would be greatly appreciated.

I have to agree on the fact that it looks slightly unprofessional, although it looks pretty clean.

What I would consider is making the content boxes smaller. Think of it this way: when we read a page, our eye sees "boxes of content". Maybe you get a feel of what I'm talking about by checking this site: myweddingfavors.com It is owned by one of the creators of StomperNet I think.

      yeah man,

myweddingfavors(dot)com looks good. I think it is by Brad Fallon?

Slimming the main content box is definitely a must. But then there will be a bunch of extra space to use...

I'm considering sidebars? But does anyone know of effective sidebar methods that boost sales?

I'm a newbie in Internet Marketing but am qualified in web design... just a quick tip: change your font to Verdana. Much easier to read on a screen and looks better.

You make ONE mistake (amongst others), one i actually lined out here:

SEO Mistakes & Webmaster Failures to Avoid

What you do, you try to sell ONLY on your home page but have no way of selling on your articles and sub-pages. Why? Your visitors will also land on your other pages...so you are losing LOTS of sales.

The other (minor) mistake is that you should simply align the images so text wraps around it. Align them left or right and use 4 or so margin. If you cant do this install
"FCKEditor Plugin for wordpress" which replaces the default editor and makes it WAY easy to upload/place images etc.

You also use the term "karaoke machines" WAY to often. If google comes on your site, you will bombard it with half a dozen "xyz karaoke machines" right away...looks like spamming.

    Tip:

Keep your static front page (of course it needs an overhaul with the images etc. and wording)....but add the other machines as Categories on the side maybe. I dont think that nav menu is good, i myself only use contact us, privacy, terms as static pages in nav menu...the rest is POSTS.
And dont forget either to add banners side-wide for whatever you want to sell...or put a "buy now" button on each of your posts/pages. Not simply an article and then conveniently tell them "go to the main page to buy". No one will do that.

I think the site could be greatly improved by a few changes like rather than having text then images, resize the images and have the text wrapping around them. Instead of having "read reviews" copy a snippet of the review and italic it putting it in quotes and put "to read more" link.

Instead of a large BUY NOW button test different buttons like "more information", let amazon do the selling while you do the reviewing as people will be more comfortable pulling out a CC to amazon than an unknown website.

        Hope this helps

There are a few things you can do. I do not know if you are a CSS person at all, but in order to use thesis effectively to get away from the default look you need to do a fair amount of css work.

There are some thesis skins, some are free and they might help you change the overall look of your site.

You could also try having a static home page with links to the products in a sidebar on the right hand side.

Yeah, you can definitely make some tweaks on your presentation, but copy is important. I'm sure there are a lot of warriors in the copywriting forum that could give you some good advice and point you in the write direction of a free guide/tips.

You need a call to action. Sales pages are only effective if people know why they are on your page. They are most likely looking for the best kids karaoke machines, so you need to show them the best.

A redo of the homepage (static homepage) is vital. If i were looking for a karaoke machine, I wouldn't want to see a ton of text, I would want to see pictures. I would ad a top row of the top 3 or top 5 karaoke machines labeled 1 through 5 to highlight them as being the top machines. If clicked, those could go to 'product pages' that give further details with a call to action that says order now!

You need to have pictures first, then text (the text is mainly for SEO purposes). You have a ton of white space that can be utilized. The pictures will convert 99.99% better than the text ever will, although its important that you have valuable text on the page for rankings.

You could also put images in the sidebar that advertise the best karaoke machines (i would put the ones there that bring you the highest return). Because this template is so white and blank...you can really utilize beautiful images to make them pop, draw the eye and make those clicks and purchases happen.

    Hope this helps.

    Honestly:

Looked spammy right when I opened it
Nothing to really open or click so YOU can make a sale
Text looks really wide and spread out
    Theme isn't great
    Really bland
Popup is annoying and it leaves some Amazon page that doesn't work at the top
Features some first letters are capitalized, some aren't.
    Doesn't flow

Two short thoughts (only overviewed your side):

Stress the difference to just buying an playstation with sing star?!
I agree with the others: The site looks unprofessionall (i know it's difficult to hear this again .. but its my opinion)
