Joe Sugarman question

Hello there,

Perhaps I am being a little lazy but could someone tell me if these 3 books are essentially the same?

1.Triggers
2.Advertising Secrets of the Written Word
3.Ad Week Copywriting Handbook

Amazon reviews would suggest that the content of number 1. is in number 2. and that number 3. is word for word the same as number 2. but having some internet additions in.

I am trying to work out why numbers 1. and 2. are on sale for between £50 and £100 yet the newer number 3. is £10 which seems reasonable for a book.

PS:I am in the UK those are pound signs. I have met US citizens who don't recognise them although I suspect you all do.

    First off The Adweek Copywriting Handbook is a fantastic piece of work. It was a great read and I feel much more confident in my skills as a copywriter.

    I hear that Advertising Secrets of the Written Word is an exact copy of his last book...but I cannot be for sure.

    I have also heard the same thing with Triggers.

    But do pick up a copy of Adweek, it is one of my faves

    Hey Dan,

    First off, book "number 2" predates book "number 3". Advertising Secrets is the first of three series, containing what Joe taught during a (I think) $5,000 seminar. It is one of the most amazing copywriting books I've ever read. In my opinoin, you should get that one and forget Number 3.

    Besides that, number 1 is Not the same as the others. It's good but it won't beat Advertising Secrets. Have fun!

    If you have to buy one, buy Advertising Secrets. I have Triggers also and it is 90% the same. But I bought it because I found an autographed, serialized edition in pristine condition at a used book store for $3

    Take a look at The Buy Impulse by Danny Wall. It's pretty much a blatent knock-off of Sugarman's Triggers. It's an ebook so do a search for it and you might get lucky and find it as a give-away somewhere. Good luck.

      "Triggers" has a few more triggers in it than "Advertising Secrets"
      as I recall, but the core thinking is the same.

      Allegedly "Adweek" is an updated version of "Secrets" and should
      thus be more current. I haven't read it though.

      I will say this - "Advertising Secrets" in hardcover is a really nicely-made
      book. If you just want the information and not the nice book, get
      "Adweek".

      "Triggers" was findable as a open PDF on the internet a while back.

          "Triggers" has 30 persuasion triggers. "Ad Week Copywriting Handbook" has 31.

          HOWEVER

          Ad Week (the later book) omits 4 that Triggers has and includes 5 that Triggers doesn't.

              The four persuasion triggers in "Triggers" but not in "Adweek" are ...
              1. Objection raising
              2. Objection resolution
              3. Emotion
              4. Patterning

              Adweek is, of course, a whole lot more than just the 31 persuasion triggers. They only take up 60 of the 330+ pages.

    I am currently reading the Adweek book, and it's excellent...I haven't read the other two because as mentioned earlier they are pretty much exactly the same as the Adweek book...

    The Adweek book is simply brilliant. It's got everything, pretty much. I keep going back to it for a brain cleanse every few months.
