To link or not to link- 'Where?' is the question

Please bear with me- I'm a little fuzzy on this... I know that in some places, posting your link within the content is ok, and for others it is 'taboo.'

I also have been told that for those that won't allow links in the content, it's a good idea to put my link in my signature. For an affiliate link, though, I don't see how that would be practical, or even effective. If the customer has to go to that extent to figure things out, surely they'll just look somewhere else.

Can anyone give me a list of known sites that do allow you to put your link in the text? I could search them out individually, case their terms, and if I can put a link in my content- then register, and set up my profile (I know the latter two I'll have to do anyway)... that would take me forever.

I'd much rather shave off the wasted time and get straight to work, as anyone can understand.

Any help is appreciated!

You may want to consider writing articles and submitting them to article directories and add your link in the email signature. You may want to create your own landing/opt in page and link there first. This can help you build your list, and since some article directories don't allow direct links to an affiliate site, you can remain within their terms of service.
