Where to find examples?

I'm currently reading a couple of different copywriting/marketing books. I feel like I'm learning a lot of theory but I'd like to start practicing because I know that's the best way to learn.

I've been told by several people that I need to find examples of great copy and study the crap out of them. The only problem is, I don't know where to find great copy.

What would you guys recommend for resources?

Also, should I be learning video editing skills to go along with my copywriting skills? Will writing skills alone be enough to find steady work? I see a lot of ads on ClickBank that don't have any copy at all. Just a video. Is this where things are headed? I just want to make sure I'm not wasting my time learning the ins and outs of copywriting if it's soon going to become obsolete. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated!

Bob Bly's The Copywriter's Handbook taught me all the important stuff. Everything I read afterwards was just icing on the cake.

Probably I am a little biased, because that was the first book that convinced me that people would pay good money for copy.

    • I would suggest you do certainly look at learning some basic video editing skills unless you want to hire someone to make videos for you. You can always find people who are quite affordable to create videos for you but as its been mentioned in the thread already, videos are always going to need scripts.

To find great examples of copy check out some of the top selling clickbank products, what you need to remember is that you don't need to study the words there using, you need to study the method of how there writing and the philosophy of how the copy is trying to 'subliminally' sell you a product.

Learning the method and philosophy of writing great copy is better than learning a few big buzz words.

      Good luck!

Search Gary Halbert copy or Gary Halbert sales copy and you'll find some real golden nuggets, I've been collecting his sales messages for years. Also, search for his audio interviews with Michel Fortin. There are two of them and worth gold.

I just put up a site where I'm scanning and posting ads from my MASSIVE copy swipe files.

It includes ads in all formats (print ads, sales letters, mag-a-logs, etc) and from big and small advertisers.

Plus there's a section that has copy written by the "legendary" copywriters. (Including Gene Schwartz, John Caples, Victor Schwab ... and some contemporary legends too)

All the copy swipes can be downloaded in PDF format to your computer.

As you can imagine, this is a huge undertaking. Right now there's about 50 or so pieces across a bunch of categories available.

More will be added each week -- until I can see over the pile of paper swipes.

Anyway the site is free ... BUT you DO have to register.

I do this only to make sure I get folks that really want these resource. NOT aiming for compulsive collectors of "stuff" to send my S3 bill through the roof.

Use the link in my signature below to go to the site.

Hope this is helpful to all.
