Probably not you if you talk, sound, read like your favorite copywriting guru.

Who's not going to love ya...?

The marketers with money to spend.

That's who.

And they want these two things from you...

#1 be different. what's different about you than other copywriters

#2 no B.S. They have a very, very sensitive eye for it.

I bring this up because, I heard this subject talked about outside this forum.

It was a running joke how many [copywriter name] sales letters they could spot
written by these imitators.

And here's the thing, the marketers looking for an alternative to these poor
carbon copies of said guru, will let you have free rein on the copy.

Not only that, they will pay the kind of money which will have most copywriters
in disbelief.

So todays thought, come up with your own writing voice.

Nobody can truly copy it, therefore you are unique and different.

Best,
Ewen

I must admit, I have never, ever had the desire to imitate anyone. When I wrote a set of autoresponders for a client, he requested they should be more like Frank Kern. So, as I had never read any of Frank's emails before (the shame of it, I know! Sorry Frank!) I went away and did some research and thankfully nailed it straight away - client was happy and I was somewhat deflated because I like my own style.

Not because I love my work and think I know best - I most certainly don't, but I do believe my uniqueness has meant some great clients for me which have happily booked, re-booked and booked me again. (Oh happy days!).

And I most certainly understand what you mean about clients understanding and appreciating this fact - one of my clients mentioned that he had used other copywriters but loved my style because it was my own and subsequently booked an additional project with me. I think that's the key, and as always Ewan, you hit the nail on the head.

During my coaching, Paul mentioned that I had a unique inimitable style, and one of my apparent hallmarks is that I use the words 'It's true!' in every sales letter I write and in most of my autoresponder series. He said that if he ever read a letter or email with those words in it, he knew it would have been written by me!

So, not realizing that I actually do this, I went through all of my letters and emails....and sure enough - he was right

But, he did also say that developing your own voice is what sets you apart, gives your work its own personality. Perhaps one day when I'm a grandma and my copy becomes as famous as Clayton's or Carlton's (A girl can dream, right?) I'll be thankful my words were immortalized and used by every other newbie...until they develop their own voice too.
