Headline of a Copy

According to me, headlines are the most important element of an ad copy. I'm sure there will be people disagreeing with that, and this is indeed a very debatable topic, but it's just my point of view when I say headlines are extremely important.
After all, there's floods of products in almost every common niche these days - a typical reader would probably go "yeah yeah, another product about it.. " and browse away, but a very effective way for subconsciously forcing the reader to stay on your page and care to read your copy is by throwing a VERY appealing headline - a very attention-grabbing title- at the reader.

So, how do you guys usually write your headlines?
Me.. 1) I've tried putting a small testimonial statement as title, 2) asking a question which may be bugging a potential prospect, or 3) Revealing benefit directly, while attempting to make it sound intriguing.

Does anyone know of unique and awesome tactics for writing effective headlines?

    Yes. I cheat. I start with an awesome product and offer.

    Beware: If they catch you at making the product or service live up to the headline, you'll get thrown out of Hype Camp. I like cheating as a technique. Cheating this way comforts the nerves.
