"Journal" or "Newsletter"

I can almost guess what some of the input I'll receive will be, but I do want to check in all the same.

My girlfriend and I will soon be putting out a monthly print publication about food.

Wanted to know what you guys prefer in the title;

"Journal" or "Newsletter"

Thanks for the time,

John

    I think it depends.

Healthy Food or Weight Loss, then journal.

    Grandma's recipes, then Newsletter.

What it depends on is what you are trying to project. Simple awareness of what's going to work. And that depends on knowing who your target reader is.

A journal is something you keep to write in.

So if you were putting something out called: "Here's my monthly journal of all the junk food I ate while gaining 7 pounds of fat, and losing 2 pounds of muscle" --then I'd call it a journal.

If you're putting out a monthly letter on tips and advice, I'd call it a newsletter.

I agree with the sentiments above; go with newsletter - it is a more relaxed audience, and thus your brand should be relaxed and informal.

Think how other foodies market themselves and their work; then look at who uses the word journal - large newspapers, specialty publications, etc

Newsletter is a more personal approach. You can always break out a new "brand" or division that's something fun like the The Journal for Homemade Gelato...or w/e

Newsletter. People need to know what it is before they sign up for it, and I think "journal" would confuse some people. Is this something where I log what I eat every day for dinner? I'm sure most people will read past that and see what it is by your description, but it can't really help conversion rates if there's any confusion.

    I'm very intrigued so far...

Tell you the truth, I think we will be sticking with "newsletter."

    Thanks guys.
