What Do You Guys Code Your Sales Pages In?

Short and to the point.

I now run Windows 7 and my Dreamweaver 4 won't run on it.

What do you Windows 7 users code your sales pages in? I'd prefer a WYSIWYG
editor that isn't too outrageously expensive and works well. I don't need fancy
plug ins or anything like that. I just need to make a clean web page.

Thanks.

Hand code. A syntax hylighting code editor. Your preference with vary on which one you want to be using. Some let you rewrite the UI and command menus yourself, and I like that.

    Similar to Dreamweaver's code view.

That, and testing in a variety of browsers, gives me some assurance it'll at least show up in most popular browsers ...most of the time.

I don't like WYSYWIG, because it lies to me. Yes, what YOU see is what YOU get on Your computer. Not so everyone else. This promotes very very very bad habits.

Hand code. Markup your own layout.

This is nothing different than a catalog copywriter who knows Quark doing a catalog layout in print design.

There are a ton of people waiting in line to debate this point. I troubleshoot their client's web sites/layouts because of this.

So if I just use my Ultra Edit, that should be good enough?

You could use it, you could also use Komodo Edit which is free, good luck!

      Steven,

I find it easier to separate the writing from the design.

So I first write the copy using Microsoft Word and just put in design notations as I go along.

After the writing and editing gets to a certain point, then I paste it into my HTML editor and do the actual design.

Check out SiteSpinner. It's pure wysiwyg, and allows you to preview in each of the browers installed on your machine.

Adobe came out with a competitor to
    their Dreamweaver product which is
    currently free

Create unique websites without writing code | Muse (code name)

I think it's pretty good after playing
around with it for a little bit.

I suggest watching a few vids on Youtube
to get the hang of where the buttons are
and what they do. Took me about an hour
to build out a sample site with it.

    Steven,

I'd suggest doing a Google search to see what versions of Dreamweaver run on Windows 7.

Then hit Ebay and see if you can pick up a licensed copy of a newer version of Dreamweaver.

My reason for saying this, you already know how to use Dreamweaver... so why burn the time having to learn a new web design program?

I went from Dreamweaver MX2004 to CS4 about 2 years ago and it was well worth the couple hundred I paid for the upgrade b/c of the faster software and additional features I gained.

    Hope that helps,

    Mike

I code everything in Microsoft Word also, which allows my clients to do an easy copy & paste.

    Steve,
In the past I have used the likes of Frontpage and Expression web, but now I use Edit- Plus and I do not think there is anything out there which provides cleaner code, It not WYSIWYG as such, but you can type in a page a plain text and very easily format it ad pictures video's tags etc.

There is also a preview page to see what everything looks like, there is a 30 day free trail and options to add spell checkers in various languages.
