$10,000.00 by Jan 1, 2012...what I'd do if I was broke

Here's a simple plan to make some quick cash.

If I was flat broke, with only a computer, here's what I'd do.

Sell booklets.

Here's a step by step guide.

If you do this, you can make some serious cash.

Go to Adobe and download "Adobe Indesign".

It's a program you can use to create booklets, it's free for 30 days.

You'll make enough in 30 days to pay for it when your trial runs out if you want.

Create a booklet, or more than one.

The program also lets you design the cover, etc. with graphics.

Here's some ideas:

Do a booklet on the history of your town.

Do a booklet on how to look 10 years younger.

101 ways to lose 10 pounds in 10 days.

101 Make-up tips.

101 Health tips.

101 Excercise tips to make you feel 10 year younger in 30 days.

Use your imagination.

You're a copywriter...get your game on.

All you have to do is go on the internet and do the research...it's easy to do.

Write your booklet...

It may take a couple days to learn the program...but it's worth it.

If you have a laser printer you can print the booklet out for pennies.

You'll have to fold and assemble them yourself, or your local office supply store will do it for you for pennies.

I had done a booklet on the history of my county.

I sent a press release and had it featured on the news.

I made $20,000.00 in 30 days.

If you decide to sell your booklets in carry-outs, etc. you can buy a upc code off the internet for about 25 bucks.

This is an easy way to make some quick cash.

Try it...you'll find it worthwhile.

It's not that hard to make some serious money if you're willing to put in a little effort.

  • Good stuff. For anyone that goes for it, here is more info that will help you from a similar thread:
    http://www.warriorforum.com/copywrit...3-30-days.html

    and
    http://www.warriorforum.com/copywrit...big-money.html

Here are the laminated guides I was talking about in the first thread above:
    Fry's Electronics |

Maybe you could come up with local guides in this format.

Here's a different spin on a local guide that this Warrior had success with:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...gh-school.html

Also, Allen has good info on selling short reports here (inside War Room):
    http://www.warriorforum.com/my-ideas...ol-s-gold.html

Warrior Shay Rockhold sells short reports she calls Hotsheets here (no affil):
    http://shayshotsheets.com/

Here is an example of how she sells them as a WSO (no affil):
    http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...n-program.html

Here's a Warrior selling $7 reports. The thread has some good info on how to create upsells and backend products (no affil):

You can then expand your booklet biz by buying a block of ISBNs from Bowker and going POD through LSI.

Set up that way, your booklets will be listed in Books In Print. That means your booklets will be available on Amazon.

Congratulations. Now you are playing like the big boys.

LSI will print and ship anything ordered through Amazon withing 24 hours. That's right, they are Amazon's dropshipper.

Now you can concentrate on promoting your booklets. Just link directly to the item page on Amazon. That way Amazon (through LSI) handles fulfillment and pays you once a month (after a 90 day lag.)

Buyers can use their Amazon Prime account for free/discounted shipping...you benefit from the trust they have in Amazon and don't have to handle any inventory...it's win-win.

You forgot to add the mansion is actually built on a yacht...

Which in turn is able to fit in the on-deck swimming pool of a bigger yacht.

Come on Mal... if every copywriter wrote 100% grammatically correct copy then they'd be the owner of a salesletter that made their English teachers proud but didn't sell a damn thing.

Copywriters write the way people TALK.

Carlton would get taken to task for his heavy use of highlighting...

Bencivenga and Makepeace would get in trouble for using ellipses in almost every paragraph...

        Etc... etc... etc... etc.

My point is, Max shared a solid business idea (that I've seen from more than one source over the years) to help people -- if they needed the help.

Why not offer some suggestions on how to take the idea and kick it up a few more notches instead?

        My 3 cents,

You think? He's offered some advice on writing a booklet. Fair enough. But then...how do you sell that booklet? Thats what people want to know.

People also want to know if this guy is for real or just talking BS. Talk of fancy cars, Citation jets, mansions, "i retired at 35" yada yada yada just leave me cold - until I see solid proof.

As for the correct use of English - we're writers - so we should know this stuff and promote it.

Oh yeah - didn't the OP announce to the world the other day that he was leaving the forum...because...you know...there were no top writers or marketers here and he was just throwing pearls before swine blah blah blah. More hot air.

          Not impressed.

Well... we're supposed to be copywriters so we should be able to put on our thinking caps and determine the media to sell it.

A physical booklet, I'd probably do some type of classified ad in the newspaper... I'd start with local newspapers and test it... get some metrics before I worried about rolling it out to bigger circulation newspapers.

Other options could be point of sale displays, co-op marketing with local brick and mortar owners, rent a list and send a mailer to them, etc, etc. My budget and the contents of the booklet would determine which media I want to start with but long-term I wouldn't limit my options.

I'd be more focused on how to turn it from one-time sales into a continuity or a series of repeat sales.

People also want to know if this guy is for real or just talking BS. Talk of fancy cars, Citation jets, mansions, "i retired at 35" yada yada yada just leave me cold - until I see solid proof.
            Fair enough.

IMHO, it doesn't faze me a bit. One of my first online mentors was the same way in forums and when you'd talk to him by phone or email. But 100% of the advice and recommendations he gave me was always right. His rationale for the bragging was it was a way to pump himself up and keep him motivated to keep working hard and going after big goals. It's not my style but it worked for him.

Personally, it doesn't faze me a bit how much anyone makes online or what types of cars, houses, stuff they own.

After owning a brick and mortar business for over 13 years in one of the most affluent parts of the Philadelphia suburbs, I met a lot of very successful people... Entreprenuers, Fortune 500 CEOs, doctors, partners in law firms, TV & radio celebrities, professional athletes, university presidents, etc, etc, etc.

95% of them were really nice people... they could easily blend in with the general public. Even if ever read the book "The Millionaire Next Door" that was what a lot of my massage therapy center's clientele was like.

As for the correct use of English - we're writers - so we should know this stuff and promote it.
Last time I checked, I've never had a client tell me they decided to hire me because I used 100% correct grammar. I have had countless clients tell me they hired me because of how well I write marketing that connects with their target prospects and makes my clients a lot of money.

Oh yeah - didn't the OP announce to the world the other day that he was leaving the forum...because...you know...there were no top writers or marketers here and he was just throwing pearls before swine blah blah blah. More hot air.

            Not impressed.
Maybe he was having a bad day. I don't know the OP from the man on the moon so I'll leave it up to him to explain why he says what he says about leaving the forum, pearls before swine, Bentleys, etc.

I thought it was silly to nitpick over someone's grammar when they were offering helpful advice to all for free.

You want to poke holes in his advice? Good for it. See if you can offer something better.

But acting as the grammar police? IMHO, it's a complete waste of your time and talents. Worse, it derails a good thread.

            My 3 cents,

            Mike

You know, Henry Ford was once asked if he was worried he would ever lose his fortune (or some question to that effect). He said no, he wasn't worried, and he'd have his entire fortune back in 5 years.

This kind of entrepreneurialism really excites me...I've got to get my a!@# moving a bit more!

Not to take sides or anything... but I'd write 'If I were broke' because it's the way I speak... But then again I speak quite well.

I take pride in my language, I think it's a good one... hate seeing it get raped on a daily basis by the cretins who'll one day inherit the Earth... most folks under the age of 23 or thereabouts.

That's a general social commentary by the way, not a targeted assault at anybody here... I don't consider the word 'was' to be rape, just slightly incorrect... smiley face

I ****ing love Henry Ford though... "Produce It Anyway"... the best.

I think I want to do a case study one day though, on why people hate Mal so much...

    Something along the lines of:
    • He's got a big reputation... so you could leach plenty of social value from him if you became his friend...
    • He's very good at what he does... so you could probably learn a lot if you became his friend...
    • He upsets people constantly... but you wouldn't get upset if you became his friend...
    • He's well established... so could probably open up a lot of doors for you if you became his friend...
    • You want to be his friend so much... but he won't let you be his friend.
    • As such you run the risk of getting picked on at random... which upsets you because you just want to be his friend...
    • And he always seems to be right... so it's hard to win an argument and make him look like a dick for not letting you be his friend...
    • Bursts of unjustified hate...
    • Consequent justification of aforementioned hate...

I don't know... needs a little time and effort to put together something with weight...

Incidentally, thanks Max for trying to provide some reasonably actionable advice for folks who may need it (although I'm surprised you're still here... I'm sure I read a thing from you the other day saying you'd packed your bags!)... press release info would help a few folks out I think... Mark took care of the actual booklet bit... so that's cool.

Still better than an email saying 'I hate your mother'... so credit where credit is due

EDIT: Hmmm... I had this reply window open for like an hour as I was writing... I got distracted... and with the time lapse, now it kinda reads like I'm sucking Mal off a little bit here. *shrugs* oh well

@ Mike, "Grammar police"? WTF. It was one short observation - that you seem to be blowing up out of all proportion. You Yanks want to mangle the English language - go for it. But it still isn't correct. It's always "if you were" or "if I were". It's called the Subjunctive.

"See if you can offer something better". Sure. Where you want to start? Promoting booklets? That's easy - get some free publicity for starters.

Oh yeah - "offering helpful advice for free". No he's not. He's just big-noting himself. Has done from the very beginning. But now, apparently, he's taken his ball and gone home.

You really want to get me started?

Coming back to the booklet idea - "History of your town/county" -find a HOOK. Most people could care less about history. But if you WERE to drum up publicity by saying something like 'Local historian claims there's $2 million of Civil War Gold buried in the county" - then you'd have a story. A story with "legs". Rather than "Here's a booklet on the history of our county". And, of course, you'd want to back that statement up - rather than just nebulous claims.

I actually did this a few years ago to promote a business that I had bought into...and was changing their previous marketing plan to make the business profitable.

    It worked great...

    @kaivern -- actually I faxed them

@kimbojim -- local businesses were happy to offer them for sale. Most communities have a sense of pride in their past.

@thecopynazi -- I didn't do the old regular type of history where you start from the beginning and work up to the present.

I told about 10 stories from the past -- all interesting things most didn't know.

    @mark andrews -- that's a great find...wish I'd of known about them

As for the other examples I gave -- tips, etc...it would be quite easy to print your booklets and sell them in grocery stores, gas stations, etc. You could work out a deal with the owner that would give them a percentage of each booklet sold. I mentioned UPC codes because some places require them now to have a product on the shelf. You can google and find low cost ways to buy them. There are many places that will still sell local items without a code, at least in the U.S.

If you sold each book for $4.95 (example), and sold 10 books in each store (minus $1.00 print), you'd make $39.50 per store. If you had them in 10 stores, 20 stores, 50 stores...you can do the math.

Just an idea that you can try.

It's nice here today, and it's time to go golfing...have a nice day.

You'd think for someone who created $20,000 in 30 days, they would realize that sharing such a method would warrant more information than the fact he simply created some booklets in adobe indesign. Surely, some suggestion of who or where the cash comes from would make the thread more coherant?

I'm sure I could figure it out myself, or make my own path, but with these kinds of posts, Something doesnt quite sit right with me. You either divulge or you don't, we're not in the WSO setion, and we're not here to play kiss chase.

You make a lot of money creating booklets? Great, really good for you, and I mean that. However, don't be smug enough to elude to something and leave no context or method. I mean, what's the point? With no meat, the gravy is way too salty.

UPDATE: just seen your previous reply, fair play, I take it all back
