What Magazine has the strongest ADs you've ever seen?

Sadly I don't have a single magazine subscription anymore. My poor swipe file is dying of starvation...

What magazines have you seen the best Ads in? I'd guess weight loss or perhaps a business mag?

Thanks

Recommendation: Go to Barnes & Nobles with your iPhone, grab a scanner app, find ads, scan the ads in. Some of those scanner apps can get pretty decent layouts.

Do this for a couple hours and wala! Your swipe file is happy again.

The "best" ads? Do you mean the best for branding? For getting people to take action? The most clever?

As for limiting your swipe search to just weight loss and business mags - I have no idea where you got that idea. If ads only worked in 2 types of magazines, why would advertisers place ads in any other publication?

You'll find both fantastic and crap-tastic ads in every market.

Like Derek suggested, a book store is a great place to start. Take your phone, and flip through all the magazines there.

Take snapshots of the ads that grab your attention. Why did they pull you in? Did they do a good job? Was the headline spot-on? Does the concept sell the product?

Remember, swipe files only help if you can understand what made the ads work (or not.)

    Good luck!

    OK. So popular science.

Should we subscribe to ALL magazines?

What about going to the library? Is that historical artifact still 'round?

I've seen the "Sperm Shoe" ad loads... mainly on aeroplanes.

Readers Digest and National Enquirer tend to be recommended most often.

Trade magazines specific to the niche you write for aught to be handy too!

I think the library is a really great idea for this. Actually if it wasn't for libraries having so many subscriptions I wonder how many of these magazines would even be around in their printed format. You can spend all day in the library with free WIFI (for the most part) and see most mainstream mags, plus a few quirky mags, too..

I think flipping through the different magazines at your local library is a great idea. Like what was mentioned earlier, look for the ads that repeat themselves over a long period of time. If they staying power then that probably means they're working.
