Post Card Lead Generation Copy

7 replies
So I'm working on a marketing plan that will build me some passive income and build a client base that I can market additional services to if I choose to do so.

The plan essentially goes like this.

Postcard -> Free Recorded Message

Free Recording -> Report

Report -> Sells Product

Monthly Newsletter -> Maintains relationship and gives opportunity to sell other stuff.

Anyway, I'm basically going to offer a free website if the business owner agrees to host their site with me for monthly fee.

Here's the copy I've came up with for the post card.

Want A Free Website Custom Built For Your Business?

Call 1-800-XXX-XXXX For Free Recorded Message That Explains How.

The only purpose of the post card is to get people to call and listen to the free recorded message. Obviously I'll be targeting small businesses that do not have a website.

My recorded message will educate them how to choose a web designer.

The report will educate them on why they need a website.

So basically after they go through the system I have a prospect that's itching to buy my irresistible offer.

Anyway, sorry to ramble. What do you all think about the copy? I don't like the "That explains how" part, but I can't seem to come up with anything better yet.

    Craig Garber is very good at 2-step lead generation.

    Here's a sample of one where it consistently gets a 5 to 1 ROI.

    Also don't under estimate how good he is at targeting.

    Samples Of 2-Step Direct-Response Display Ads

    Best,

    P.S. Scroll down to bottom and you'll see another.

    I think that's a really good start. I think the image you put on the post card will have a big impact on response. I'd worry about that more than the copy at this point - You're copy's already quite good.

    Why not send out a postcard with instructions on how to apply for a free custom website.

    Include space on the card for them to complete their details and reply to a freepost address and give a website they can go to as an alternative to fill out their details online.

    You could still have the recorded message with voicemail after to collect leads, but having these other options will increase response as many are adverse to the telephone.

    The success of a campaign like this depends on the reason why you are giving it away free.

    Claim something is free and no one will believe you. Give them a plausible reason why you are giving it away free and you are onto a winner.

    People don't trust free unless they can see what is in it for you. Show them how it is mutually beneficial and you will see a massive difference in response.

    (Trust me, I have spent the last year fine tuning a very similar offer)

    **EDIT***

    PS. Having the recorded message about how to chose a web designer doesnt sound good to me. I would have the recorded message purely of the benefits of the report. All the things the report will do for them and the reasons why they should leave their details after the beep.

    Also why make a report educating someone why they need a website? If they respond to the offer they obviously need a website so its kinda redundant.

    Perhaps there are some points you have left out but right now I think you need to work on the plan a little.

      Thanks for the feedback.

      I left a bunch of stuff out just for brevity, but in general I'm going along the lines of what you're suggesting.

      I like the point about how giving the free site makes me money. Since I'm targeting business owners, obviously they know there's got to be some money in it for me.

      I'll make sure to explain how. Actually it opens a lot of doors with regards to what I want to sell them down the road (possibly) like marketing advice, etc.

    How big is your postcard? If that's all your copy you're leaving a lot of money on the table by not using the remaining real estate.

    I'd add benefit/reason why body copy and push them to a site like getfreewebsitenow.com or greenbayfreewebsites.com etc

    You always want to test, but "Free Website" is a strong offer, so I don't think you need the phone-in step.

      The recorded message is really more about starting the relationship building. I'm not 100% sure if I want to do more than make passive income from this campaign, but I probably will. So I want to start planting seeds about things like SEO, marketing strategies, etc., so that I can offer those services down the road if I choose to do so.

      I'm still thinking through the plan. I'm just a little concerned about giving them multiple options for response. This is going to be the first time I've done something like this, so I'm flying a little blind.

    It's a good start.

    My only concern is that other businesses are doing it too. You have the POE (point of entry) benefits but you don't have the POD (point of differentiation) benefits.

    Also, feel free to tweak the headline a bit. For example, what is the main benefit of having a website?

    "Do You Want More Traffic To Your Business With A Free Website"

    or

    "Do You Want To Save $247 And Get A Free Website Today?
    (Limited offer only. 25 available. First come, first served)

    The "Free Recorded Message" part though turns me off. I am expecting to hear a long pitch about if I purchase this and that and that I will be able to get a free website.

    So, I would instead say:

    "Call 555 - 555 - 555 and listen to a 2:41 minutes recording telling you how to get your free website. It's not a sales pitch and we won't try to sell you anything.

    Now, there's another thing I don't understand. You are giving them a free website or not. If you are selling them the website, then the headline is false. It's misleading. If it's only a free report in how to pick the ideal web designer (something like Ogilvy did once for his agency) then say ...

    "Are You Making These 33 Mistakes When Hiring A Web Designer"
    (I'd be especially careful with mistake 14 - it almost ruined a small entrepreneur)
