Your Product - Your Message - Your Problem

Howdy Warriors,

Being both product creator and copywriter I feel there are a few things that I should share, based on my experience, with fellow product creators.

The big advantage you have when writing your own sales letter; (given you created the product yourself) You know your product inside out....and you know, well at least you should, your prospect really well.

This gives you an advantage when selling...A sales person who knows his product really well is much more convincing.

Unfortunately, tho, that is the only big advantage you have when you write your own sales letter. Here are a few problems you will run into:

1. Your product is your baby, you've put a lot into it and there are a lot of emotions involved. Buying is an emotional decision but selling certainly is not. You may very strongly believe in the product and therefore feel that you don't have to do so much convincing. It happens, its natural but its also suicide for your sales.

2. You know a lot about the topic of the product and therefore might not realize how little people, who you are selling too currently know. If they get intimidated by what you are talking about in your sales letter; you are in trouble.

3. There is a lot that your product gives the prospect and its information they need to know, but it doesn't necessarily mean it will sell. You've got to choose the parts that will sell the best and present those. The rest don't need to be mentioned, I by no means am saying hide the defects, if you product lacks in something don't claim it doesn't. But concentrate more on the result instead of concentrating on the effort, don't say they don't need to do anything, be honest, but concentrate on the prize not the price.

If you can overcome those challenges and spend time understanding what sells you'll manage to do pretty well.

I still feel hiring a copywriter will probably be the best investment for your product, but to all those who want to do it themselves I hope this helps.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Good Luck

Stay Frosty,
Ric Rocco
