allstate gets me every time...

Seen the new "Mayhem" series of Allstate commercials?

OK, so they're not so 'new' anymore...

...but they continue to crank out new ones on a regular basis.

Why?

They flat-out WORK.

I'm practically immune to advertising... especially when it comes to "interruption marketing" like TV commericals... but when I think car insurance, Allstate comes to mind.

Every one of them makes me laugh, and that's why they stick in my head.

Perfect example of using humor in copywriting.

Now, in the IM game we're not usually writing such short advertisements... but that certainly doesn't mean you can't use a little humor in whatever it is that you're working on.

Why does humor work so well?

Entertainment.

Getting a person to laugh, even if it's the smallest chuckle... hell, even a smile:

It's engaging.

Another example:

The "Honey Badger" craze on YouTube.

My dork brother eats that honey badger stuff up, and it's absolutely retarded.

Search for 'honey badger' on YouTube and you'll see what I mean.

Whoever's behind that genius idea is rollin' in green now... with the new pistachios ad on TV.

They approached the honey badger doofus because one of his videos had 22 million views on YouTube...

...and humor sells.

I know this thread isn't revolutionary, or super-educational... but here's the main take-away:

If a dash of humor works with someone as calloused as me, it'll definitely have an impact on whatever you're pitching.

Care for a chuckle?

Here's the honey badger ad I mentioned:

And here's my all-time favorite 'Mayhem' ad from Allstate:

Feel free to chime in with any of your own examples of copywriters using a dash of humor in their copy... and doing it effectively.
