Do you believe in personality type theories?

I wrote a blog post a little while ago talking about four basic categories of people and how to sell to each of them: Writing For Different Personality Types « constantcopy

the four personality types I talked about here are based on David Kiersey's interpretation of MBTI type theory

However, there are other theories:

Big Five Theory

Enneagram Theory

etc

Do you believe in any of these theories?

I personally don't think they are scientifically sound as comprehensive theories, but I do think they produce convenient little distinctions you can use to help you when dealing with people:

1. introvert vs. extrovert

2. thinking vs. feeling

3. independent vs. mainstream oriented

etc

what do you think?

When you build an avatar of your typical customer, if you can determine his/her personality traits, by all means include them. It will help you find the emotional triggers of your market.

I wouldn't concern myself with personality types, however, since people rarely fall into just one.
