Good advice but you could do it better and faster. Buy 2-3 books only on copywriting. Then get a mentor to help you take your writing to the next level and start getting paying gigs sooner rather than later.

Actually, it's APPLIED Knowledge. The world is filled with very educated folks that work J.O.B.S. for someone else. My family has a real good friend that has four degrees... and can't hold onto a job more than 6 months b/c he has almost zero common sense.

Some of the most successful people in the world barely finished high school. They took what they knew, applied it and kept taking action on their goals.

As for Vin Montello... well, he's written more than one home run piece for his clients, including one that did 7 figures on it's launch. He's mentored several other successful copywriters as well.

It's probably an understatement to say he knows what he's talking about when it comes to learning copywriting.

Hope that clears things up a bit,

        Mike

Going to have to agree with Tim. After several copywriting books, you have a pretty good handle on the "theory." It's the experience of actually DOING, and then having an expert critique, that will really set you up for success.

Your right, it's all about DOING. The things that I've told people to do which are simple are reading 4 books a month.

You can get a mentor if you wish, it is another idea nearly as great as mine.

It would take me a month to just read the above post!

Mr. Thiago's got a really good method for becoming a brilliant student of NLP.

On the other hand, if you want to become a great copywriter. Read one great copywriting book... maybe two. Then write 24 letters between now and 2010.

Then donate all the rest of that book money to charity.

1 Thankyou in 547 Posts just about sais it all.

Maybe if he had read more than 'one great copywriting book' he would have better advice to share with us.
C'mon now Mr Thiago... no need to get hostile just because someone disagrees with you.

My personal opinion is the subjects you've chosen are too heavily focused on NLP and Hypnosis. Yes, these are useful in persuasion (and copywriting is persuasion in print). But there's far more to persuasion than NLP and Hypnosis.

Also I feel it's better to read 1 good book 12 times (and really internalize it), than it is to read 12 books once each. And there's no substitute for real hands-on experience.

So in my opinion, Montello's approach is more effective. (That's not to say your approach isn't.)

Warriors are you reading this message?

I have given you this advice today so that you can:

    A. Write High Quality / Persuasive Copy

    B. Sell better

    C. Communicate better

I do not want you to take shortcuts and lose a lot of money in the long run.

Buy the books that I recommended, read them and educate yourself.

You either spend £1,000 on scams and get nowhere or you spend £1,000 on these books which will give you skills to make money for life.

Be skeptical about those who always tell you to take the easy route.

Hope that this information has helped.

    Thiago.

Don't get me wrong here guys... I didn't say study hardcore for one whole year.

I said read 4 books a month. How difficult can that be?

You'll still have time to practice your writing skills, and do other things such as enjoy life.

Just imagine what 48 immense books on nlp, hypnosis, trance and copywriting can do for you in the long term though.

    Here's my random tips:

    - Do study a handful of great books, not a crap-ton. Write out the letters and examples by hand to get a feel for the rhythm and better understanding of the writing and transitions.

    - Like said above... WRITE some letters... You learn pretty quick what works and what doesn't when your money is on the line

    - Do your homework before writing anything. Know your market, understand the prospects thoughts, behavior...etc. Talk to them, interview them... do everything you can to understand their "hidden" thoughts that they respond to. People will NOT be able to tell you what they respond to... you need to figure it out. Plan your entire letter out in little chunks. Then flesh out your skeleton.

    - Develop your personal swipe file and a well organized swipe file that's all hand written by you. Not worth going into why you should write it out by hand, just do it.

    - Test test test. You may hit a triple or home-run on your first shot at a letter, but with some testing you can put it out of the park.

    - Like someone mentioned above... DO read good fiction. I think you can really build your sense of how to create nested loops that keep the prospect reading best from a "page turner" of a novel. People tend to make the top sellers list for a reason - Because people can't put the book down after starting.

Thiago. My friend, You can read 10 books a day for a decade but that ain't gonna add a dime to your bank account.

I have a friend who made $150,000 in 6 months as a copywriter for agora. Guess what he did? Read one book "Ultimage Sales Letter" By Dan Kennedy.

There's a difference between book knowledge and what I call ACTION knowledge. I'd rather learn from my mistakes now than wait a whole stinking year just to take action.

Plus, unless you're gonna become a surgeon or something like that...why in the world read 48 books? knowledge is only power if it's put to action...otherwise, just waste of time and money

    Thiago,

    1. You wrote "You Must Read 4 books a month" and I said No you don't have to...just take action. You can read one copywriting book and still do well if you read the right book. I'm not saying you can't read more...but you seemed to be focusing waaaaaaay too much on the education part rather than taking action.

Maybe you didn't mean it like it came out...but I can only read what I see.

    2. Re: My friend....He had no business knowledge. He was working for UPS. I'm not sure if he picked up few tips from business people while getting them their packages "on time". I'll have to ask him that.

    3. So you really want to know what I've done. I'm the copywriter/Marketing strategist for a Dan Kennedy Platinum member. I wrote copy to fill seminars, sell high ticket products vie DM and Web, spoke in a seminar, Increase profits for small businesses as consultant. I've been fortunate to have many great friends and mentors who've helped me along the way.

Thiago, I wish you the best of luck and success my friend. And if there's anyways I can help you out, Please let me know.

      Hi Nido:

What I want to know is the story of how your friend went from UPS worker to six-figure copywriter. He read Dan Kennedy's book -- got that -- what else did he do and how did he do it?

      Thanks,

and if you want to be a SUPER Brilliant Copywriter?

What I want you to do is go to Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk and buy 10 books each month on these subjects:

    NLP
    Trances
    Hypnosis
    Copywriting

You must read 10 books a month for one whole year.

    10 x 12 = 120.

I guarantee you that on the 26th January 2010 you will be thanking me.
