Three Places To Get Copy Jobs

Hey, if you guys are looking for work, there are 3 places you should be patrolling - or set up RSS feeds if possible.

1. LinkedIn - you can register to receive news about copywriting jobs. I get an email about once every two weeks. Each one has a dozen jobs. Some jobs are from companies you would recognize. Others may be new to you. Most seem to want you to work "in-house." Not all of these jobs are in house.

2. MarketingSherpa - most people don't know about this one. It's jobs that are web/technology based. I've seen many many copy jobs here. Today before posting I didn't see any but these listings change frequently.

3. Craigslist has the most postings. Look under and major city and you'll find copywriter jobs.

Even though this forum is a pretty brutal place for posting copy, make sure you've got you copy chops set before applying to these jobs. So, if you're a newbie, you can learn something here.

**** Snark interlude *****

After all, where else can you get feedback from a nameless billionaire who has 13 lambos and his own private jet squadron - one for every direction?

**** End Snark interlude ****

If you don't apply, for sure you won't get one of these posts.

Good luck.

In the old days, my strategy was to bid high on Guru. I got a couple of 5K jobs that way. Some people think, well if he's 5K he must be better.

I always stayed away from Elance with the cheaper is better culture.

Not who I wanted for clients.

        Great advice.

New copywriter wrongly think bidding high will make them stay hungry.

However, it is an excellent positioning strategy.

Is this the same billionaire who retired at 51 but apparently still has 200 employees? And hangs out on an internet marketing copywriting forum - but has never sold a thing online or even has a clue how to build a site.

Actually that is several years old.

My goal was to have a site where copywriters made serious money. Unfortunately, when they actually had to submit samples for jobs - very few did.

If you are still on my email lists, Aweber inserts a link at the bottom of every email you receive from me.

If you can't find that link, PM me and I'll manually remove you.

Just add to the Craigslist part...you can actually use an aggregator like SearchTempest to search ALL of Craigslist at once.

Just put in your zip code and then the miles radius you want to search around that area. Put in the keyword of the type of gig you are looking for such as: writing, design, etc.

Then you get results from all the cities within that radius.

      Hope this helps!

How did I not know about this? Would have saved me so much hastle. Have not given Linkedin a lot of my energy, but after reading this thread, I will have to.

Yes, I agree. LinkedIn is the first place to get opportunities. There are millions of users there that are professional and in fact, I am a member there and still overwhelmed with what varieties of opportunities it can offer for my businesses. There, I found good relationships with professionals.

I'm pretty new to copywriting and I've been using odesk for about a month in my spare time. I've found it very helpful in steadily building my portfolio. The aforementioned "cheaper is better" culture is rampant there, but I think that sort of thing can be useful for people with zero experience like me. I'd also like to note that it's got a very encouraging feature that allows you to see all the other applicants you're beating out for a particular job.
Didn't like the interface in freelancer as much. So I've got an account there that I've been neglecting.
