Can anyone recommend good copy coaches?

Does anyone have any person experiences with one-on-one copywriting coaching that they can recommend?

Im not looking for some mentorship program where you watch a bunch of videos for the low low price of $27 a month, I mean one on one coaching.

    Vin Montello.

There... your search has come to an end.

How about a bunch of videos, personal critiques, free copy resources,
swipe files, contract and questionnaire, forum to interact, marketing
advice ... all for $97 per month?

I don't advertise my students, but a more than a few are getting 4 figure
and 5 figure fees after just a few months with my program.

    Don't underestimate "low low prices".

If I was starting over again, I'd go with Vin Montello in a heartbeat. He has a reputation for turning out 6-figure copywriters in a few months. He ain't cheap, but he really is because in a few months, one fee will pay for months of his mentoring.

Based on their websites, I don't believe that Ray Edwards (the Washington state based one, not the Michigan-based Ray L Edwards) or Michel Fortin are offering one-on-one copywriting mentoring per se.

They have group trainings or critiques but not mentoring in the traditional sense.

I usually recommend Ray L Edwards or Vin Montello. Both of them are very good copywriters and copywriting teachers to boot. Both of them have a growing list of proteges that have gone on to become successful.

My suggestion would be to talk to both of them and see which one you feel more connected to. The better the personality connection, the easier it will be for you to learn from your new mentor.

        Good luck,

        Mike

I've finally given in and decided to hold a special coaching for
those who want the personal attention and faster results
          from 1-on-1 coaching.

I've just 'launched' a 1-on-1 coaching program in addition to the
          'group coaching'.

It has a 5-figure price tag though, so it's only for serious prospects.

Well, not absolutely zilch - I did get some hot air and nothing I didn't already know.
Ouch! How is it possible to get nothing from 10 hours? I don't know
who you are referring to and don't want to know (plus anything I
say would be interpreted as just competitor bashing) but did you
              have a guarantee?

Most coaching programs with that figure will allow you to get your money
back after an initial session. So I hope you are kidding when you said
              you got "nothing".

Aha! This is the thread that got the tongues wagging on the copywritingboard, and sent me 8 inquires in my email this morning. Thanks to all that mentioned my name. But...

As I told the other 8...

I keep my current roster very small. Because of that I only have one slot opening up end of March.

I'll fill it if I must. But my wife has asked me to not book it for a while. She actually wants to see me from time to time. (go figure)

If someone really needs me, however and we're a good fit... I'll consider it.

    Chalk up another vote for
    Vin Montello.

The stuff Vin taught me paid for the
house I live in, the computer I'm typing
on, the chair I'm sitting on, the clothes
    I'm wearing...

    ... basically everything.

Not to mention all the expensive
    musical equipment I've somehow
    become addicted to buying.

    Thanks Vin. Again.

Maximus, if you can get Vin to take
you, grab that opportunity with both
    hands.

    -David Raybould

PS- This isn't a slight on Ray at all...
I'm sure his coaching kicks all kinds of
ass too, but I have personal experience
    with Vin.

Seriously, is Montello such a great mentor?

I studied copy for two and a half years before I made a dime.

Didn't even know where to begin finding clients. Or how to tell if I was good enough or what to charge.

Then I found out my long time comedy friend, Vin Montello, was already sprinting up the ladder of the freelance copywriting world.

I hadn't talked to him in years.

We connected. I told him I dreamed of a freelance career. Said I wanted to be great someday. But it wouldn't be easy replacing my $65K salary, even though I hated the job.

He was mentoring with Garfinkel. He agreed to share what he was learning.

He did much more than that.

He beat the lessons into me. Daring me to match his dedication.

If I bitched about finding time to write between running a company and two young kids at home, he'd say, "I thought you wanted to be great?"

I'd curse under my breath and get back to it.

Soon he trusted me enough to refer clients.

I thought the lessons were hard work. This was a new level of torture.

I was spending 40 hours a week at the office and 50 more in the concrete room at the rear of the house -- hunched over my laptop. In the summer months, I had to cover the keyboard to keep the sweat out.

My kids began referring to me as "that guy out back."

      Worth it?

These days I run my own company. I'm the only employee. Last year I paid myself twice my former salary. (I still work 55 hours some weeks... but never an extra 40 for someone else.)

I get to spend lazy afternoons in the park with my kids... and take my wife to those restaurants where the rich people eat.

These days I get to work with guys like Garfinkel and Carlton and Deutsch and the Halbert boys. I'm humbled to call them friends.

I even coach some writers myself now and get a kick when they curse me under their breath.

In this gig, the learning never stops... but, for me, it all started with Vin.

Without him this would all be something I still hoped to do someday.

(And, oh yeah... he's wicked funny, too.)

        Good story.

What I particularly like is the fact that it proves, if you want to get good, you'd better WORK at it.

      David,

Actually I take this very personally. How can you recommend Vin over me
when you never had a chance to test my coaching? Every post
about Vin is one against me actually.

Every time I read "Vin" it says in my mind "not Ray!" ...

Just kiddin' I'm sure Vin is a great teacher as he learned from who many
      call the best copywriting coach.
