5 Email Copy Tips/Rules that you should keep in mind.
I know another warrior has posted something like this but I thought I'd give you my experience as an email writer.
For those whom don't know my credentials yet, I've worked with Scott Rewick, Matt Garrett, Seth Larrabee, Cindy and Soren, as well as Reed Floren, Steven Essa. And had my works checked and approved by the likes of Joe Sugarman, Colin Theriot and many other respected writers.
Here's something I learned as a great way to write emails (this is one of the models I use)...
This is if you are selling an affiliate product...
1) The obvious Subject line...
This is where you tell them what the email is actually about.
If you are in a big launch or WSO launch and everyone is sending out emails to their lists about the same thing, don't just promote it like them... Rather use something like...
"Don't buy x until you read this:" - the ":" is important, don't know why but it always gives me a bump in open rates.
This automatically makes you stand out as everyone is raving about something and you're saying don't buy it, they want to know why...
2) Body copy...
Start off by talking about why they shouldn't buy it. Be honest about who this product is for. Something I write about and keep in mind is my ideal prospect for an affiliate product. If the product is about weightloss. Then I tell them whom it's not for after I've talked about who it is for...
"Now you know what's inside this product and what to expect, but don't buy it unless you do x/if you are pregnant".
This lowers your CTR (Click Through Rate) but makes your list love you more because you're not selling them something knowing they won't qualify and make them think "This person broke my trust."
3) Link placement.
In an affiliate email you don't want to put to many links around but you do want them spread out through your copy. My rule of thumb is after every big portion you put a link... make it in text though...
">> Click here to find out more <<
Check this out live <<"
By the way the ">>/<<" works as it draws the reader in.
4) When dealing with Email Service Providers (ESP's) like Aweber, Getresponse, etc. Make sure you don't do this...
http://yoursite.com and hyper link it like that.
If you want to hyperlink a URL do this...
[hyperlink = http://yoursite.com]www.yoursite.com/yousite.com[close link]
this way it doesn't add up against your spam count .
5) Always, ALWAYS write your copy in html format using <br> or <br/> codes as opposed to <div> or </div>. Because yahoo and a few other email services can't read <div> coding.
So this may mess up your message, so use <br> or <br/>.
I suggest dreamweaver, NVU, or any html coder you can download .
Enjoy,
Adil
