I guess this would be the place to ask. I was hoping for suggestions to help this sales page convert better... Im a designer, definitely NOT a copywriter, so i know its not great.

Finally started getting enough traffic to calculate that its converting at 4%. The people buying it really like it and I got a great testimonial so far. Would like that conversion a little higher though.

Thanks all for your suggestions!

A 4% conversion is by no means bad. Considering your price
level you could do better but again a 2% conversion is
considered good online. You need to work more on getting
more traffic than your conversion when you are at 4%. You
may also look into raising your prices.

4% is excellent Trisha, well done!

I'll echo Ray's words, just drive as much highly targeted traffic as you can now at the page.

Just one point... your testimonial. Pop a name below it and location for example: Joe Bloggs, Sedona AZ or whatever you choose or the original persons name if you have it there. It might help to give you a little extra credibility.

For someone whose not a copywriter - you've done exceedingly well!

      Good luck Trisha.

      Kindest regards,

    Hi Trisha,

If you could provide the answers to the following questions, we can help you make major improvements in your conversions.

    1. Just as a point of reference, please let us know how many total sales so far.

    2. How are you generating the traffic?

    ----

    3. The first step is to contact the previous buyers to discover what specifically compelled them to buy. Get them by phone preferably, but you can start off with an email.

    Something like:

"Subject: Can I ask a small favor?

Hi, it's me Trisha, the designer of then Clean Business template you recently purchased.

I hope it's working as desired for you. If it isn't, please let me know asap and we can get things sorted out quick.

Can I ask a small favor?

I'm wondering what feature or function you found that confirmed that the Clean Business was right for you.

In other words, what about it made you buy it?

I'd give you a list to choose from, but really the first thing or two at top of mind is really the answer I'm looking for.

If we can talk by phone, that would be great. I can be reached at XXX, or if you just want to reply by email that would be fine as well.

Thank you again for buying my template. I hope it serves your needs well and I look forward to your reply.

    - Trisha"

If you talk to them on the phone, feel free to dig deeper.

Either way, no matter what they say, it's the right answer. The one you're looking for.

You'll quickly start to see patterns of reasons. Maybe they'll even use the same words. Those are worth noting.

Once we have this information, next we can fashion a strategy for conversion improvement.

    ----

You can also do these additional two things:

    1. On the thank you page, install liveperson.com. You can initiate a chat to thank them again and find out the reason they bought.

    2. Also invest in clicktale.com. It will record movies of visitors' activity which will provide insight into what they're focusing on.

    ----

I have three hunches your problem is above the fold. It's "clean," as in a lot of white space, but perhaps too clean.

Also "like a breath of fresh air", while a cute phrase, does strike me as particularly uninspiring to get one to read more. What ARE the magic words?

    Your previous customers will reveal.

Lastly, the smallish thumbnails of the themes are definitely not inspiring one to invest the time to investigate further. (Which is why I would encourage you to move the "View demo" link above the fold. Have the text link as well as an attractive button.)

    ----

So let's start there and work our way down the page. There's a lot of potential here.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and excellent advice! I had no idea 4% was good! I thought at 10% you could start bragging

To answer the questions here. I got 6 sales from April to September at $27. SLOW moving, the page only got 300 uniques in the whole 6 months BUT! it was consistent without me lifting a finger to promote. So I knew I had something good.

In December, I gave it a push. Dropped the price to $7 for a holiday sale and slowly bringing the price back up to see where people feel comfortable buying at.

The page is gaining momentum in the search engines, and Im publishing new items with easier keywords and bringing them over to the page, so traffic is increasing quickly. The only other place I promote is here, in my signature. Havent felt confident enough to run a wso yet.

Mark, the buyer with the testimonial on the page, his site isnt quite ready yet. as soon as it is, he'll get a link back, and the testimonial will show proof.

Rick, Thanks for such your in depth analysis. I did have a buyer yesterday and asked the questions you suggested. I do realize I have a big 'above the fold' problem. My site header is too large leaving little space.

...and I have been looking at those thumbnails, thinking the same thing... those do nothing for me. I will for sure work on that. Though i didnt have any concrete ideas about exactly which way to go with it (a larger image, a video intro). I guess my past buyers will give me that insight! Thanks for that great tip!

      Thanks again everyone!
