She must be a copywriter - Amazing video

Hey Guys,

Hope you're doing well.

I saw this video posted up today and it reminded me of:

The Power of Words

Now that's what I call being able to see things from the prospects point of view. (no disrespect intended).

It's an ad. Created by a UK copywriting agency.

      And obviously very well done.

I don't know if it's because I'm a cynical Brit, or if it's because I'm disabled and hate the 'pity' message, but I didn't like the video. I can see why people do, but not me.

My apologies Phillipa if it was seen in that way.

For me the focus was the copy and how it changed the fortune of the man. The implication being that good copywriting can also have that kind of an effect on one's business.

Oh don't worry, you've nothing to apologise for. It was an interesting and probably powerful message, but I just have an intense, gut reaction against the ubiquitous pity narrative.

From the point of view of the company who made the video it's been a massive success. They did it right, in terms of creating something memorable which makes people think. People paid attention to it and shared it, they did it 'right', from a marketing point of view.

I just personally hated it ;-)

Good job filming in the only nice part of Glasgow city center. That sign is going to be "beautiful day" relevant once a year.

I've seen this video in Italian (maybe), with a male playing the "copywriter." It'd be interesting to know who's ripping off who. I hope it's not the "content specialists" in the version posted.

Might be the same company behind the italian version. Possibly trying to enter the Italian market?

Nah, definitely not. I did some sleuthing... The MEXICAN version was a short film made in 2007.

IMDb - Historia de un letrero (2007)

"Historia de un Letrero" - YouTube

The Scottish effort was uploaded in 2010. So, I'm assuming they just ripped off the original. Thus, they suck at content creation!

Incidentally, the woman who owns the Scottish company used to run the web copy team for Hilton hotels, who has an international office in Glasgow. I worked at the same office doing telesales and unsuccessfully applied to her for a job on the copy team...

    Small world!

Looking back, not getting that job was a lucky break for me.

That's quite freaky. You might have a point about the ad. Small world indeed.

And I agree that sometimes not the getting the thing you want can be good for you even though we might not realise it at the time.

    Had goosebumps watching it!

This shows a lot - emotionally charged words have a far greater impact that just flat out monotonous words.

Yeh, that's what I thought as well ...

Until I heard about The Mexican version.

Talk about originality! There's hardly any change from the original apart from the language, country and genders.

I think it's missing the point for the most part. Obviously good copy is more effective than lousy. But as an online warrior "good copy" is not my primary concern in the first place, especially not if'm supposed to pay for it.
As a warrior I want to put out a lot of copy to cut through all the noise in the first place. Good copy does not help me here, not matter how good it is.
It helps on the street with traffic, not really on my site.
Especially not if I am a warrior and I want to have A LOT OF SITES. So good copy for me is copy that I can pump out quickly and SE friendly and cheap.
