Comfort Zones Are the Kiss of Death...

A lot of people are incredibly uncomfortable at the prospect of selling themselves... and their products or services.

Is that you?

Does sales copy make you a little nervous and/or uneasy?
Well...

Good.

There's a very specific reason why so many entrepreneurs (wannapreneurs) fail at Internet Marketing...

...Because they aren't willing to keep pushing the envelope and continuously take their sales copy to the next level.

Your marketing is never done.

There isn't ever a time when you should feel like you have a moment to rest on your laurels.

Why?

Well...

Anything that's not growing is dying.

This includes your marketing.

After all...

The way you present yourself to your audience is like a breathing, living thing.

These aren't just words on a website or sales letter.

Your sales copy is you reaching out and connecting with your audience.

And it's your job to keep reaching deeper within yourself to make that connection more and more emotionally compelling!

You've got to keep making yourself feel uncomfortable (and step outside of your comfort zone) to obtain more prosperous results from your sales copy.

Find that leader's voice inside of yourself and say things your friends and family wouldn't ever expect to come out of your mouth.

It'll feel so liberating...

...I promise you that.

Discovering your leader's voice also allows you to have more fun with your marketing and writing your sales copy (or collaborating with your copywriter!)
So...
How can you transform your existing copy and inject a shot of much needed flamboyancy in the voice (e.g. tone & approach) of your marketing?

Mark Pescetti

P.S. If you REALLY believe in what you're selling... prove it in how you talk about the benefits and light up people's imaginations! You can be humble and audacious simultaneously. And remember, IT'S NOT HYPE... if you're connecting with your audience (on an emotional level!)

P.P.S. I'm NOT saying to stay married to the computer. Go out and live your life. DUH! But when you're sincerely passionate about your business, it should never feel like working when you're pouring your heart out in your sales copy!

    Really good post Mark.

I think that people also aren't successful because the sales letter puts them in a state of comfort. You know - the illusion of having the business. Sales letters do that. They put people in their comfort zone. Which isn't bad because as a copywriter thats the GOAL to a great control.

Thing is though that there are people out there who SUCK at having a business. They don't know HOW to run a business. It's TOO much in their plate. But when they read a sales letter that CONNECTS with them in their current situation, they just BUY. But never implement.

And it's not just in the business niche. It's also in the weight loss niche, self development, and any other niche out there...

Just the way the human mind works. And it's impossible to really TEACH this to any noob because it's one of those lessons that are only learnt the hard way.

  • This is one of the primary reasons why most people dabbling in Internet Marketing will never succeed.

They're quite happy to dip their toe in the water and have beautiful daydreams of staying in bed all day, laptop rested comfortable in their laps, raking in the money while the sun streams in through the windows of their £1 million home.

The truth is, most people are simply too scared or simply are unable to grasp that an online/work from home is equally as hard as owning a brick and mortar business. They think it will all come very easily to them, and fail to realise that there's about 100'000 other people all doing exactly the same thing as them.

Anyway, thanks Mark. Good post, and hopefully it'll open a few eyes.

That's probably been my biggest challenge, both in the sales and marketing of my services. I feel comfortable face to face in networking/intro scenarios - clients tell me time and again that my passion for what I do and belief in my capabilities naturally shines through when I talk.

But soliciting online and through other marketing methods has been more difficult for me - it's outside my comfort zone. I've been pushing lately, though. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out.

Where ever I feel the biggest charge about something is where I go ASAP!

      Seriously...

I get off on feeling uncomfortable...

...because I know behind that discomfort are amazing experiences just waiting for me!

Here's the thing about comfort zones:

People think they get to take who are, RIGHT NOW with them to a financially successful future.

      This is completely false.

Who you are, RIGHT NOW, must die for the you who enjoys untold success & prosperity to exist.

That's why I always say: "You can't take who you are, RIGHT NOW, with you... if you want the success you've declared!"

      That scares some people.

It excites the hell out of me.

      Change is so natural.

It's the only constant in the universe.

      Moreover...

It's the resistance to change that creates the REAL pain, frustration and disappointment in life.

Mark, you are amazingly kind and encouraging, and I sincerely appreciate that.

I've found that the best way to force myself out of my comfort zone is to surround myself with people who believe in me and what I have to offer. To put it bluntly, they hound me and make sure I'm following through on plans I've come up with.

I'm seeing some decent results and I'm proud of that effort.

One of my old HUGE charges when it came to marketing myself online was whether or not I should show a portfolio.

And if I did, what projects would I show (after I got permission from the REAL owner of the copy, a.k.a. my client.)

          Then I decided I simply wouldn't show a portfolio.

I knew if someone truly resonated with my marketing messages, we'd hit it off without a hitch...

          ...and just naturally move forward.

I don't brag about how much money I've made people (too often) and I don't base my rates upon past conversions... to prove my worth.

I always and only try to connect with the person WHO'S REACHING OUT TO ME and see if we organically mesh.

If so, I get paid easily and the project goes off without a hitch.

If not, I hold the space for someone who IS my ideal client.

But it's interesting that since I stopped showing any kind of portfolio, hardly anyone asks me for it any more.

          My point?

We all have a unique path towards creating our own freelance copywriting business.

You have the tools to be where you want to be RIGHT NOW.

But then there's those annoying limiting beliefs getting in your way.

          However...

When you can observe those internal obstacles as fantastic opportunities for manifesting the business and financial reality you want...

...You'll look forward to feeling discomfort and move through obstacles quickly, easily and with grace.

          After all...

These obstacles (discomfort) occur inside of your body.

          Nobody makes you feel anything.

And when you really acknowledge that, it becomes so much more effortless to move through stuff and leave your emotional baggage (limiting beliefs, judgments and stories) on the side of the road.

          By the way...

This isn't directed at you Angie...

...It's more just a general stream of consciousness.

But I appreciate your contributions to the forum and foresee great things on the immediate horizon for you!

Guilty. I have been dreaming of earning passive income online for years now. But, I just don't know how to sustain it. I'm only a part-time worker.

Very true. I'm new to all of this, but from what I've been through so far, there is no risk-free or comfortable way to go with online business. Takes a lot of thick skin, and sometimes, getting your hands a little dirty.

I have experienced this first hand. I had stopped marketing or looking for clients because I was on a monthly retainer.

One day the client changed direction and I was no longer required. To tell you it was the most frightening period of my copywriting career may be an understatement.

These days I spend at least one hour daily marketing myself.
