Video Ads as sales copy...

Video Ads?

I'm seeing a lot of sites that simply have a video clip as their sales pitch..no real copyrighting text...just video...and these sites seem to convert well...

Haha, do you have a question about them?

Or are you just making a declarative statement?

Depending on the circumstance, video-only can convert well. But so can a video/copy hybrid, and so can copy only. Again, it depends.

My opinion on this is that much of commuication is really moving towards video. Especially with the x-box generation and it better be short and immediately engaging, or you get tuned out.

I get what you're saying, but I've never understood this. You can't fast-forward through most VSLs -- heck, you can't even pause some of them if you've got to pee. You're forced to sit in your chair and wait around for the offer.

But you can skim regular sales letters -- especially if they have a good double-readership path. So it seems like they would take way less of your time.

You're spot on - but I have to tell you, I love long copy - but even I have been caught up in the - "don't have time for this" of late. I think it's only going to become worse.....

Does anyone have split testing results they can to share on "captive VSL" (meaning no indication of time remaining, no video controls, the viewer must watch straight through) versus "considerate VSL" (meaning the viewer knows how much time is remaining, can pause if needed, can come back to a specific point if has to leave)?

Personally speaking, I don't care for indeterminate-length captive VSLs where no consideration is given to the end user's time or needs (such as needing to pause if the phone rings), and was just wondering how those two variations rank in split testing.

Don't forget that it's still copywriting... just for the spoken word.

I have seen video work well for people who had a story in their pitch. Most common in fitness and internet marketing products like: I was broke, joined a program and now travel twice to Europe, my years at the gym bore no results but this training program got me ripped!!
Videos are more interactive but it is better to have some written copy on your sales page so that people have a brief idea about what they are watching

I think one of the benefits of a Video Sales copy is that everyone likes to watch a short video now-a-days. Look at youtube popularity...when you market you can include something like "Watch the Short Video" to increase click throughs

This thread means business because you are right that getting an animated sales video is pretty much your own 24/7 hour salesman. With a good VoiceOver and jingle, it can excite visitors because of the engagement it carries via good compelling graphics, and typography. I use a sales video for all my online venture these days which saves me
Lots of hours writing long scripts. Time has changed, so you should change your game as well

Why you need a Sales Video to increase conversions

What I don't like about video, however, is that instead of just reading the text in your video people will just go open another tab and do something else while listening to the voiceover.

that's because they tested it and it rocks. people don't read anymore.

the WSJ's newsroom policy is to never write above grade 6. People magazine is grade 4. A vegetable can watch TV, and it's really hypnotizing.

split test your text copy vs video copy and you'll see.

In your video, read your copy in the voice over and put BIG keywords on the screen. put in a countdown. Use EasyVideo Player to put you CTA button IN the video.

I did the test (with a **** video I did in 15 min.) and I doubled my conversion overnight.

just try it. what do you have to lose?

One significant drawback to most videos is they can't be skimmed, so the hapless viewer often has to watch the whole thing straight through, at the plodding pace of the video. Reading is a lot faster for many viewers.

If time is short and somebody thinks they can glue the viewer to a plodding video for 15 minutes just to see if it is something they need, too bad - the viewer is gone already.

Smarter usage of videos would be to have a link to a text version, or show a text version if the user tries to leave the page, for those that prefer it. Many of the better sales sites do this.

Yep I think this is the next wave...people don't want to read, they want to watch.
