I came to learn from the best....
Long time lurker, first time poster. I've been reading the copy forum religiously for several weeks now and thought it was time to throw myself into the community after absorbing a TON of really helpful information about this industry. I've been a part-time writer for over 4 years but have never really moved out of the trenches of the cheap SEO article writer market.
Im past the point of being affordable for most people in that market and the professional copy industry seems like the most logical next step for my writing. I also don't think I could stomach writing one more throwaway article for these 1-3cent a word clients! J
I've always wanted to turn my part-time writing business into a full-time career and some of the discussions that I've read on this board have really helped fuel that passion more than ever before, and for that alone I sincerely thank you guys.
My main question at this time is how you guys approached your first clients and what services you offered. Based on my past experiences with IM'ers and other clients I feel like offering a more comprehensive marketing service is really where I could shine in this business. Here is just a quick brainstorm of what I've thought up on my own as to what I could offer potential clients.
*Customized copy layouts based on already-proven campaigns
*Test marketing a variety of headlines through targeted internet surveys
*Writing 2 different pieces of copy for each client and doing 30 day split testing and continued internet surveys to prove results before picking the final sales copy for the client.
From my research there's not a lot of copywriters that (at least publically) are offering this kind of "hands-on" approach to their clients, and I think that is what could really help me get off to a good start and get my name out there as a writer that truly helps people make money. .
Based on the kind of yearly income I'm shooting for and the estimated amount of time invested in doing all this for the client, as well as compensation for my own marketing and expenses I'm thinking the average client would be spending somewhere in the neighborhood of $1500 with me, which from what I've read is a pretty good value for them for the price.
To start off with I'm actually writing my own digital product that I believe is going to perform quite well, and at the very least give my future clients an example of the services they can expect. After I'm done with this project I'm really going to vamp up my marketing to potential clients.
Anywho, just wanted to post and say hello and get a little insight from you guys as well as any tips or warnings you could give to the new guys out there.
Thank you so much for your time as well as the valuable insights into this exciting industry. I can only hope that I can help contribute to this community and be as valuable to others as you all have already been to me.
