I'm going to attempt being vague on purpose as I'm not trying to destroy my reputation all in one single post although I realize its possible.

But I did genuinely think this was very very cool.

To keep it clean, lets just say like any other man I like women. So when I get bored, I tend to go looking for them and I usually do it by getting up and leaving my house.

In the past I have tried posting ads on various dating sites, and rarely ever had success. I'm a good looking guy too, so I never really understood what my problem was.

I essentially gave up on the whole online dating thing a while ago, and for some very odd reason gave it another try tonight. In person I'm not bad with meeting people, but online I absolutely suck. The ONLY thing that has really changed in my life, is I have been reading A LOT about copywriting in the last 3 months.

I almost didn't even realize I did it, but I made a damaging admission in the begining of my dating profile. I also spoke very little about why I rock, and more about the modest benefits of hanging out with a person like myself. When in the past I think I would have tried to make myself look like a prince, tonight I just showed the world exactly how it is.

What suprised me the most, was the amount of responses I got from females when I have NEVER gotten any legitimate response like that online before (only 7 but still a pretty major difference). So I wound up messaging back and forth with several of them, and at that point I really understood I was marketing myself completely differently than I use to in college. That whole "honest copy" concept basically just reinvented my entire online dating life! I'm not a liar or anything, I guess I just use to boast too much.

Have a date tonight with a totally attractive indian girl. In one of her first messages she said "you sound like a really cool guy". When I asked her what she meant she said something like "well you just seem different". Then I got it out of her that her opinion of most american men is that they are full of themselves. That damaging admission (which I won't get into for the sake of time) has actually gotten me my first date online, and then it totally clicked in my head.

Women want a confident guy, but confidence isn't conveyed by talking yourself up, in fact, it looks like it might be communicated through the total opposite, talking yourself down. I think you just need to do it in a way that comes off secure is the point.

THANK YOU to all the copywriters on this forum, I got 90 mins to shower up and get the hell out of here. If things don't go well, I got 6 more messages to respond to when I get home!

Complete insanity - I think I just matured 10 years within the span of 3 months thanks to copywriting.

    Cool beans.

Self-damaging admissions can be great credibility builders. This makes the readers (or, in your case, potential dates) feel like you're an honest person.

    Good luck.

Copywriting can be used for so many things it's not even funny...

Have you seen this site? - http://textyourwifeintobed.com/

Essentially it's copywriting in text... and the creator of this product happens to be a copywriter as well...

    Just something to think about.

LOL...I've used dating sites before. Often I get guys asking me for advice or asking me to help them write their emails/profiles. Online dating is definitely an interesting world with its own set of sometimes nonsensical unspoken rules.

  • "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."
    ~ Rudyard Kipling

The more you learn to master the use of words, the more powerful you become. Most information transferred between two people is through verbal communication. Imagine mastering that completely, and how you could manipulate, coerce and influence people into doing things, thinking things, believing things.

What you say has a profound effect on those who hear it.

The 48 Laws of Power ~ Robert Greene

    Always Say Less than Necessary

When you are trying to impress people with words, the more you say, the more common you appear, and the less in control. Even if you are saying something banal, it will seem original if you make it vague, open-ended, and sphinxlike. Powerful people impress and intimidate by saying less. The more you say, the more likely you are to say something foolish.

Once a person learns to control their words carefully, they become a very powerful person indeed.

On another note, well done! Hope all goes/has gone well for you,

    Ben.

I find honesty and just generally not over-hyping things seem to work wonders in any kind of situation - copy, face to face, online messaging. Although I don't personally online date, I find talking to people miraculously easy when you come across in a genuine way (and the other person is also genuine). Of course a percentage would prefer you to put on some alpha/dominant front, but the majority of the time sincerity will get you a long way.

It's rather strange where the most basic copy skills can help you out in life. Who knows where you'd be able to implement advanced techniques... Definitely makes one keen to learn more.

P.S. Hope the date goes well!

Gary Halbert wrote an ad to land a wife; talk about tooting your own horn! He said the same thing as you. Letters poured in and the phone rang of the hook. And he found the woman of his dreams and married her.

Here is my take on it (I am a woman, obviously)

    - Confidence is knowing who you are; Arrogance is pushing it down everybody else's throat, which brings up to:

    - Confidence is HUMBLE

    ... and

    - Humility is NOT thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less!
