Selling Your Services is Different Than Pimping Out a Product

When I first started writing for other people, I called my business Reflection Marketing.

My tagline was "your vision, mirrored."

The essence of my message was that the most successful service-based businesses are a reflection of each person's passion, desire to help and purpose.

This is an ideal that still rings true to me when I write for people selling their services.

The copy needs to be a representation of your personality.

After all...

When customers pay their money to participate in your services, they need to receive what the copy communicates, right?

So part of my writing services included me coaching clients to help them become the person in the copy.

I wanted them to embody the branding so they could verbally build upon what was in the copy when people called with questions.

Heck...

Sometimes people contact you just to make sure you ARE the person in the copy.

And just like I did when I worked with wrestlers and fighters...

...I would focus on bringing out their strengths in the copy, while hiding their weaknesses in the captivating benefits of what would-be clients receive.

Here's the key...

To really play a BIG marketing game, you have to very distinctively brand yourself.

Look at the Holistic MBA women or Marie Forleo...

...Two great examples of what is means to brand the way you talk, the words you organically use and the message you want to reach your ideal target audience with.

What's my point?

Why am I taking the time to write up this post?

YOU CAN'T JUST SELL YOUR SERVICES... YOU HAVE TO SELL, YOU.

And to sell you, you're going to have to wrap yourself in a brand that captures people's imaginations.

You have to trump everyone else in your niche by harnessing a message that deeply resonates with the people you want to help.

You're also going to have to become that person, 24/7.

Because that's what your clients or customers want.

You'll make bank when you realize that a HUGE part of your copy is being the mouthpiece of your personal brand.

That means blogging, making videos, positioning yourself as the authority...

You know...

Living your passion and purpose in a dynamic way.

But it all starts with knowing what your message is...

...and how to brand yourself to reach people with your services.

This isn't like selling a static product.

Your services are a living, breathing, constantly evolving beast.

That means you need to approach the copy from that perspective.

At the end of the day...

You are what makes your services different.

So be different.

P.S. Make sure you charge a lot of money. Jack up your perceived value. And create an ebook, audio set, worksheets, etc. that you can sell and make a passive income. Hell, become a public speaker and make some massive cash giving a day long or weekend seminar. Just play a big game. I mean, why not?

P.P.S. If you own and run a retail business... or even restaurant, the same basic information applies. The name and theme of your business needs to reflect the key aspects about yourself you want to infuse in the customer experience.

P.P.P.S. Ask for testimonials and reviews of your services. Make sure to make other people's experience of you and your services extremely visible in every aspect of your copy and marketing.
