Advanced technique: more advanced technique is to use what called cold reading. Cold reading has been used successfully by many fortune tellers throughout ages. The reason fortune teller has become so popular is because people love to be told what they want to be told about themselves.

Maybe your customers has a general dream that they can get from your product such as becoming basket ball pro, or millionaire, or having playmate as girlfriend.

Let's take an example:

Let's say your product is about dating. You can open with how you can feel their loneliness. How they day always cloud. And it has nothing to do with who they are, physical attractiveness or the like...How they dream to get the right girl just a moment away...

When you use cold read, describe their emotion and felling.

    But you are correct, empathy works a treat, and it is even better if you have been there seen it and done it.
