What Does It Take To Be a Copywriting Intern?

Hey Warriors,

I was just wondering if any of you knew exactly how one can get into an intern position for a copywriter or do they even have their own interns?

I have been studying and studying under John Carlton, Andrea Chaperon, Ben Settle, and Neville Medhora.

I figured this would be the best place to ask this question.

After all of my studying, I am still holding myself back because I am Self-conscious due to my bad grammar.

If any of you have any advice, I would gladly appreciate the help.

Thank You.

Your grammar looks ok to me.

But it is good that you are self aware of your weakness. Which means you can focus on that area.

    About internship...

Have you thought of joining an ad agency? It is a great place to start as an intern. Plus it will give you the exposure you need. Not to mention you will learn a lot.

You can go for mainstream ones or join their direct marketing division.

Or join an independent DM agency.

Moreover, you have, as you mentioned, studied under some top notch copywriters. Few interns have that edge when starting out. So that will give you a head start, and a foot in the door.

    Best of luck

    Anthony,

I forgot to add one more thing which i think is important.

As an intern the pay usually is pretty less. In some cases they don't pay interns at all.

But don't let that deter you. Once you prove yourself they will pay you good.

However, there is no harm in trying to start out as a freelance copywriter on the side as well. Since you know the chops, you can very well do that. And earn some nice money from it.

    All the best, my friend.

To add to what ejunkie said, you can also take up free projects from the freelance bidding sites or other freelance job sites to create a portfolio of yours. In this way, you will gain the necessary experience and also the portfolio to show to your future clients.
