IS IT POSSIBLE: A Million Dollars in Two Months... Writing Copy?

Somebody randomly asked me today, "If you HAD to make a million dollars writing copy, and you had ONLY two scrawny, measly, time-pressed months to do it... what would you do?"

A question like that really gets your "money-radar" turned all the way up to high gear.

My idea was this:

You'd better get cracking finding a client who's not only "spending the dough" to get in front of the market place, putting letters in the mail or driving massive traffic...

But one is ALSO working his hind-end off to deliver the type of massive value his competition just can't compete with... bar-none.

(And he better be willing to pay you what your worth, if you can deliver those types of results he's looking for, for him.)

What do you think?

Also: It really got me wondering if there were stories like that, already out there, that I don't know about. Comments?

Thanks for your time,

Marc

PS. If you think two months is too time-restricted, then what time frame do you think would be more reasonable for results like these? Why?

If you're already famous and you're allowed to time the two months to start after you've already spent six months looking for the best leads on the face of the planet, sure, why not?

It's possible. Unlikely, but definitely possible.

    There's two ways:

A.) You're already a famous copywriter and people are willing to pay ridiculous sums to hire you.

B.) The more realistic route, which is JV'ing with someone for a product or service, and having it take off MASSIVELY, and you net a great percentage as a result.

    Again, it's possible, but unlikely.

It's possible if you're one of the top 10. But starting from scratch highly unlikely.

Here's an alternative strategy. You just have to have some confidence like this guy...

Ruling out guys like Bencivenga and Makepeace, the odds of landing a gig paying that much are very long. It would have to be a big DM piece with royalties.

The easiest way it could be done, not saying it's easy, would be to use your skills to create your own product and copy. Then try to negotiate some big JVs and put it on Clickbank. Still be a long-shot but probably your best chance.

You would do it by finding a hot product mainstream product
like a pill or coins. Then you'd find some suckers 'er, backers
to finance list rental, postage, fulfillment and inventory - then
you'd roll the dice with their money on your writing skills.

You deal with the lawsuits later. You might have to fight
your partners for your million dollar commission... They'll
argue that they put up the money and you're just a hack.

If they come and break your legs later... well, that goes
    with the territory pal.

just seen a thread where someone picked up $10k for copywriting services for someone who would ordinarily be classed as a novice. that would do wonders for his rep within this great forum! probably took 3-4 days to put the copy together, whats to say a high paying guru doesnt come across that in here and offers ten times that amount for a high end product and a slice of the commissions to sweeten the deal. Think you would only need a couple of those to make it work.

The answer to this is "Yes", you can make a million dollars in 2 months by
    writing copy.

I've come close a few times. I've done over $500,000 in the past 2 months.

But it's NOT how most copywriters approach it.

You have to think outside the box and use leverage.

In fact, when you think of all the A-list writers who command high fees, they GET those high fees because they are writing for mailers who mail millions of pieces.

So in order to even come close to the million dollar mark in 2 months... think leverage, leverage, leverage.

This by itself will get rid of MOST of the ways copywriters try and find clients.

It won't happen by google adwords. It won't happen by attending seminars, it won't happen by using social media.

    That's not leverage.

I first learned about this leverage idea back when I was a personal trainer.
Instead of training one client for $50 an hour, I started doing group trainings, each person paying $40 an hour, which brought me to $400 an hour when I trained 10 people.

Surprisingly, when I became a freelance copywriter... it wasn't until I learned this one thing from Gary Bencivenga's retirements DVDs that I realized I could
apply this leverage to my copy business.

Since then, I keep breaking the $500,000 mark every few months, but can't seem to get past that.

So I really think it's possible to hit the million dollar mark in 2 months if you keep the leverage idea in mind.

Right now, I do coaching with copy cubs where I'm teaching them this leverage secret and showing them how to use it. Best part, they no longer have to write for singular clients, they don't have to look for clients, and income is no longer a worry.

I won't disclose the idea here because frankly, I don't want that many people doing it. I do a small group of phone coaching with my copy clients where I walk them through what I do, I give them the templates, etc...

But yes, believe me, it's possible to hit the million mark in 2 months as long as you're willing to step outside the box and think different.
