Any Worthy Supplement Swipe File Additions?

Hey Warriors,

I was talking with a coaching student earlier this week, explaining how it's very beneficial to newer copywriters to study and model the structure of winning controls. Things like how they position the product... where they introduced bonuses... where they introduce the guarantee, etc... not what specific words they used per se.

The idea being you combine strong strategic structure with your copywriting skills and you have a better chance of writing a winner for your client.

Anyways, they asked me if I could show them any recent online supplement control pieces. Specifically, something written in the last 5 years that doesn't look like a magalog.

I checked my swipe files and struck out on both counts. Same with two other copywriters I know.

I've seen some more recent things online but I can't verify they are winning controls.

Can any of you help? If so, just post a link here or send me a PM.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

    Mike,

Here's more of a research tool rather than actual swipe worthy health supplement ads.

At Spyfu.com, you can see what search term or domain
has been running paid ads over a period of time.
It shows you the actual paid per click ad.

Here's a link to an example...

    bilberry with lutein

The search term is bilberry with lutein .

In the in the colored spots, click on any of them and a window
will pop up showing the ad for that date.

It also shows costs per click for your term.

We can assume the higher cost per click the advertiser
is going to be monitoring the ads better than cheaper ones.

And on those higher cost per click that have the same ads running
over a longer period of time we can also assume they are their controls.

You may already know Spyfu, but in case you don't , it may help your student.

    Best,
    Ewen

I know you requesting ONLINE samples, but the following one is pretty interesting. It's a 1/2 page vertical ad that has been appearing once a week in our local paper for the past 3 (4-6) months.

      Here's a quick low-rez look at it:

The high-rez version in mind-blowing 20th century black & white is here:

      http://www.marketingbrainfarts.com/ad.pdf

As you can see it's the ad that appear this past Monday.

Read/look closely and you'll see 4 unusual things:

      1. Price is never mentioned in the ad.
      2. No company name.
      3. No website url.
      4. Only a toll free number is listed
      Signature

WOW that's a great peace... I actually suffer from IBS and
while reading through that, I almost grabbed my phone haha.
No but seriously, that's a great example. I just added it to my
        swipe file.

It's been a long time since I've poked my head back inside the copywriting subforum, but
if anyone else can chime in and add any examples I'd definitely appreciate it too

The health field has been Carline Anglade-Cole's bread an butter. She has consistently beat controls and occupied the top spot in several categories. Here is the link to her website where you can download a swipe file of one of her controls with one caveat...

      Kick-Butt Controls

You have to pay for it.

Bet that cut down on the requests.

However, You can download her Oprah package for free and it is packed with
      plenty of inspiring copywriting.

Carline's look like magalog's in my opinion, when Mike asked for
        "doesn't look like a magalog"

Ewen, I'm not familiar with Spyfu so I'll have to check it out more closely. Thanks for the heads-up on it.

I agree. I've bought a few things from Carline's site over the years but I've never seen anything she's written that wasn't a magalog. She was one of Makepeace's first students and has gone on to become a great copywriter herself too.

          Take care,

          Mike
