Painting themselves as morons

Ever notice how some marketers paint themselves as morons when creating urgency?

Consider this one...

I may raise the price or even close this offer without notice. Why? Because you really are getting a HUGE value for a ridiculous investment of $97.
What's that supposed to be... seller's regret? LOL

(Yes, I understand it probably works.)

Very true! Unfortunately statements like these make people BUY because it triggers their greatest fear: the fear of losing.

Should have put "ridiculous low investment" as in my mind right now it's saying that the price is outrages.

There's also the "this video (which will not be online for long)..." and the 24-hour offer expiration.

Those are obvious scarcity ploys, but they don't reflect poorly on the marketer's mental state.

Speaking of deadlines, I'm reminded of Clayton Makepeace's insightful statememt, "Believe me, nothing works as well on the web as deadlines."

I saw that ad somewhere recently as well. Now what was the offer?

Anyway, how can you tell for sure that it was written by a marketer?

Isn't it also possible that it could've been written by a ....

    Copywriter?

And you haven't even provided a link to the whole ad so we can check if the scarcity tactic was built up throughout the copy or if it was just one sentence as you quoted it.

There's definitely an opportunity for someone to sell training in creating legitimate urgency in your copy...

The advert it's from, or at least the first one Google brought up for it, is:

    Brad Callen's SEO Mindset eBook

I think it was written by Michel Fortin.

I wrote it for Brad. Today, I might have done it differently but that was a few years ago. We always look back at our copy and wish we'd have done things differently.

As far as I recall, it converts well and I do know it's a great product.

Urgency is a tough emotion to invoke on digital products, no doubt. But you do have to try.

I don't really appreciate being called a moron though

Here's what I know. I was paid thousands to write it by a guy who makes millions. And at the world Internet Summit in San Francisco, I received dozens of compliments and clients from it by others who make millions. What have you done?

Another thing that some people don't realise is that some marketers like Jay Abraham, Dan Kennedy, Frank Kern, Armand Morin, Dean Jackson, Yanik Silver, Ryan Deiss, Eric Louveire and Jason Fladlien etc. are very good copywriters in their own right.

They've made millions by writing copy for their own products and also for others.

They could teach copywriters a few things about copywriting.

      My apologies.

My intention was to talk in generalities, not single any specific person out.
