What's the best way to feature web copy in your portfolio?

COPY WRITING

I'm slowly building up my portfolio. I have examples of a white paper, case studies, and marketing slicks -- but unsure how to format web copy. Is there an industry standard for it? Screen shot or the copy (with formatting included) on a Word doc?

I do a screenshot of the website, upload it as a picture, and make it click through to the actual site with the copy on it.

Of course, that means you'll have to check the links every so often to make sure your clients are still using your copy.

Another variation is to grab a full sized screenshot, upload it as a thumbnail, then make it expand to the full version that shows off your copy when visitors click it.

Is there an industry standard? No idea.

Just make sure you showcase your copy skills in a way that's convenient and appealing to your prospects – and you're golden.

That is a fantastic question and one I've wondered about myself...I don't know if there is an industry standard or not. Like the other member said, as long as you demonstrate your ability to write good copy, that's they key objective.

Yeah, I'm a little confused on that as well. Seems like there's all kinds of portfolio setups for graphic designers, but for copy? Not so much. My guess is go with the name of the article, a small description, and a link to it.

If you make PDFs of the website pages, they'll include scrolling portions. You can then use screenshots as thumbnails linking to them. That way, if the client makes changes to the website, your example is still good.
