Double edged sword question... What kind of main headlines...?

Which main headlines are you most attracted to?

Can you provide any examples?

And what kind of main headlines are you most repelled by?

Again, can you provide any examples?

And why do you feel the way you do one way or the other? What is the reasoning behind your feeling of being attracted to one sort of main headline over another type of main headline?

Just out of mild curiosity... I'd be interested to read your replies.

Thanks,

Mark Andrews

I like headlines that include an incongruency.

    Why?

Because when accompanied by a strong benefit, they're real good at compelling prospects to continue reading.

    Example?

This famous one by John Carlton,

“Amazing Secret Discovered By One-Legged Golfer

And Can Slash Up To 10 Strokes From Your
    Game Almost Overnight!”

    • I've always found 2 things work best in headlines.

If there is truly a big benefit (usually an emotional one) - but no hype.

Better still a headline that creates incredible curiosity.

      If possible use both.

Just seen the split test results from an ad that tested
a benefit theme and a greed theme.

The greed theme won big time.

The benefits theme listed all the benefits for, whatever.

The greed theme was "if you buy, you get this Kindle".

So it was the greed in the clear pumped up offer that won.

This is why I love split test results.

        Best,
        Ewen

    I like short curiosity/emotional/newsy headlines.

    Examples:

    Prescripton
    Roulette

In the next 12 months, one in every 380 Americans -- a
startling 780,000 of us -- will be KILLED OUTRIGHT by a
medical treatment the U.S. government tells us is "SAFE
    and EFFECTIVE"

Next time you take a prescription, ask yourself:
    "Do I Feel Lucky?"
