I Need a rewrite for My Original Ebook. Any recomendations?

This is getting so damn frustrating but I will not give up. I have learned some valuable lessons along the way. I have spent way too much time on this and it has me way behind schedule.

First I hired a writer here from WF, paid in advance and fed them all the links to retrieve info for the writing. The writer went 6 weeks longer than quoted and many excuses but finally finished it. The book came to me in plain text, no format, no index,no preface, no table of contents and no conclusion. The writing was OK at best but did not engage the reader.

So I hired another writer here on WF, paid upfront and told them that I wanted the book to be rewritten with some added passion. I get book back and it was in worse shape than the original I sent. Long story short I had to file with PP for a refund. The so called company (writer) made it such a fiasco with threats to me by way of PM that I almost threw the towel in but instead hung in there and PP refunded my money.

I am now 4 months in to this and need to get it finished. I am looking for a native English writer that is here in the US that can write this 50+ page, 14,000 + words, Ebook. I have all the basics there and there may not even be much research since I originally furnished it.

Because I have had these bad experiences with paying upfront, I need some one that is confident enough in their writing abilities to get paid in progression payments or at the least 50% down and balance when completed to my satisfaction.

Please do not respond if your writers are not US based and English is not the native tongue.

Sorry about the rant!

        Hey Deckman,

Don't be too put off by all of this, stuff like this happens until you learn to create a good structure (contract) with a consultant.

Since you are paying, you are in charge. In the next gig I invite you to write a contract that states terms that are in favor of you, 50 to start 50 on completion still seems to leave quite a bit of room. In my workings I do a minimum of 33% 3 times.

Do it by installments, chapters, word count. Late fees can apply to the overall balance. Get creative and don't be embarrassed to ask for what you really want.

Remember you are the one paying out and the one in charge.

Thanks! I should know this since I am a 30 year plus contractor and I dont do jobs with out a contract and i specifically spell out the payment terms. Good contracts make good friends.

With the global market place that is upon us it can get really difficult since we have all the different cultures involved here and i try to be respectful of them and have gotten burnt because of it.

I like your response as it does open my eyes to realize IM should be no different than my every day business.

          Thanks!

deckman, if I were you, I would hire Professional Writers from the Philippines in oDesk.com.

But before you hire them, look at their portfolio first. Even though English is not their native language, they are really good at it. I should know, I live in the Philippines.

If you really insist on getting American writers, I would head over to iWriter.com and get the very best (Elite) writers.

Filipinos in oDesk charge about $4-6 per 600-word article
Elite Writers from iWriter charge about $15-20 per 700-word article

You're safer with these companies because they have a star rating system. They must give you quality content unless they want to lose their ratings.

Thank you very much for the input. Actually the writers were from the Philippines.
I am sure there are some excellent writers there but I just havent had any luck with them.
Some of the people that advertise here on WF will use writers from the Philippines and pay them as little as they can get by with and therefore the quality is not there.

I do like the recommendations you give though. I know the WF has a star rating system but I dont think it works very well for what ever reason. Some of the flakes still manage to get through.

What really sucks and I didnt know this until I had this prob is that PayPal normally will not hear a dispute/claim on a intangible item, only on a tangible shipped item. I have been with them for so long and in good standing with them that that did refund to me.

I will never again pay upfront! When you do you are at the mercy of whomever you buy from and once the money is in their account they seem to feel they have no obligation to give the quality you pay for.

While I don't write content, I always get paid up front. If your writer "stiffs" you, I'm guessing you hired someone who didn't have a stellar reputation.

If someone has a strong reputation, there's no way they'll throw it away for a few bucks.

That aside... what's your topic and budget? I know some amazing writers who may be able to do this for you.
