Thoughts on outsourcing follow-up copy

So I'm thinking about outsourcing the copywriting for my autoresponder/follow-ups. I'll probably take the copy and add my own flavor after, any thought on pluses/minuses. Any recommendations on services?

If you're not a copywriter or a writer by nature, letting someone else do a draft for you can make refining the responders a whole lot easier and faster. If you're naturally passionate about the subject and have the time, you may want to do it yourself.
There are quite a few services and writers here. You may want to check the Warriors for Hire section or check us out.

  • It's a job you can also give a VA but you have to make sure that VA has copywriting experience. There are a lot of good writers here in the Philippines although I have to admit that most of them have a hard time with copywriting.

While you thinking about outsourcing, keep in mind that
you are looking for a copywriter and not just a writer.

And if you want to add your own flavor it these emails
afterwards you'll end up doing more work that you
anticipate. At least for me. it's easier to write from
scratch than to adjust another writer's work.

    Provide:

    1. Topic
    2. Theme
    3. Thesis (what you want to say about the Theme)
    4. An outline - which follows good copy practices.

Then - as long as you have a good writer - you're good to go.

Hhhhmmm. There are several places that you could go for outsourcing a copywriter. The warriors for hire section has great writers and copywriters, you could also try outsourcefactor, oDesk or fiverr. I'm not 100% sure with services but the sites I mentioned are really good places to start with outsourcing..

    Goodluck!

If you employ a good writer, I don't think it will make much sense to be looking to add your 'flavor' 'after'.

Good copy will be the right flavor from the get-go. And it'll work so well, changing it for 'flavor' won't make sense.

Making changes to test different ideas - sales/sign-ups/whatever - might make sense to do, though.

I think outsourcing copy for your own products/services is a great idea. Not because you'll wind up using it, but instead, to get a new perspective on your own business. You'll almost certainly grab some ideas, new language, and snippets of copy from the results.

My belief is that outsourcing "your own" copy is an effective method of user testing. It's all about optimization at the end of the day.

    Good luck!

Yes, you can outsource copywriting but it's necessary to find out how they write. Copywriting requires a lot of imagination, originality and persuasiveness. So before you outsource anything at all to someone in the Philippines or India, test how well they do copywriting.

Good and experienced copywriters are very hard to come across. Writers are found in plenty. Before you decide to hire someone for such a job, make sure that he has loads of experience in this field. Choosing one randomly will not be a good idea.

Just remember, if you 'add' your 'own flavour' afterwards, the results are down to you.

I've had a client change the subject line on an email I wrote for them, made it worse, and then blame me when they never got the result.

Needless to say, I refuse to work with those types of people anymore.
