Thought I'd give you an update on where I thought the copywriting world stood today...
I think we're getting out of the era of the "work at home" copywriters, most of them have found out it's not as easy as they thought. The "gurus" have pretty much ran out of people to sell their "get rich" courses to.
It was an economy thing...the economy sucked and they knew they could play on the idea that there were desperate people looking for a way to survive. Everyone that was told they could write a good love letter was jumping on the bandwagon thinking they could be an overnight millionaire.
If you're still around...here's my advice...
The younger crowd...up through their 20 somethings:
They're only interested in their personal appearance and trying to fit in. Viral videos work wonders.
The only way to get their attention is through a multiple approach campaign.
The baby boomers:
Their main focus is on the fact that when they look in the mirror they're starting to look older. Health and beauty is what they're concerned about.
The seasoned buyers:
Those over about 60 are starting to worry more about their health.
Their floorboards are starting to creak and the nails are starting to come up.
Too many copywriters sit around and agonize for hours on writing their copy...
Here's my advice...
Short headlines...say what you're selling and shut up...
"Cure your back ache in 30 seconds"
Short copy.
I don't care what any so called expert says...short and to the point copy will always outsell long sales letters.
Long sales letters only stroke the ego of the copywriter.
Videos seem to be the craze today.
I won't watch a video that doesn't tell me how long it lasts.
I can always outsell a video with a good ad...testing has shown that an added video does little to increase sales.
Finally...
If someone tries to tell you how to do things and they're in their 60's and still trying to make a living...run...and if you can't run...sorry
