"Are You There Yet?" And other ramblings...

Ever notice some of the best of the best, the real super stars, the mega gurus, the gifted...all seem to make it then burn out in the end?

Why?

It's all about the pressure.

Once you're at the top, you struggle to stay at the top...your whole focus changes from getting there to staying there.

Once you've made it you suddenly realize you have a whole new set of worries. What you worried about on your way to the top isn't a concern anymore. Now you've got new problems.

The pressure on you to perform has been raised to new levels. All eyes are on you.

Lots of those who've made it big will often sit back and reminisce about their journey...most will always tell you they miss the "good old days". The days when they were starting out...the days when "making it" was a challenge.

There's been some very gifted singers...super stars actually who've changed the world with their music. Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin...just to name a few...

...it was always a journey for them to succeed They had it all, then crashed and burned.

Why?

I would guess they lost their will to challenge. They got to the top and found out things weren't all they were cracked up to be. They lost the fire...the pressure to keep being at the top overtook their creative ideas...

Gifted people...really gifted...are very creative...their mind is always working in overdrive, they're always seeing new angles in everything. They push things to the limit. They're the first people to take a risk with new ideas. They're the people who change our lives. They create our future...they're the people that shaped our past.

Remember that special someone that you loved? There's probably a song you hear that makes you think about them every time you hear it. It's those creative people that help bring back those memories.

This post isn't about music...it's about us as copywriters.

We have the ability to change lives with our words...and make a boat load of money...lots of us do...

...we're very creative...we're always looking for new angles...always reading the latest trying to find some magical phrase or idea that will help explode our business. We want to be good. We want to be the best.

Where are you at in your journey?

Today is Thanksgiving.

Be thankful for what you have right now...be thankful for where you're at right now...

You might not be where you want to be financially, but someday you'll look back on your journey and miss "the good old days".

The whole journey of getting to where you want to go is usually more exciting in the end than the final destination.

Every day you wake up, be thankful for what you have...being thankful will change your life. Being thankful for what you have now will open doors for what you'll get in the future.

Wish you all success.

I think Rocky 3 is a good example of what you're saying here.

    (Yes, I am a fan.)

It demonstrates how, after the first two movies, when Rocky was a hungry up-and-comer, he lost his desire to train all-out.

In the first two movies he had the 'eye of the tiger'. He wanted what he didn't have.

But, once he got it, he became lazy.

Unfortunately for him, there was a new guy guy in town who was hungry. Who had that desire.

    Clubber Lang.

But, once he got his shot and won it, he became the same. Now it was his turn to get lazy.

And Rocky once more needed to get back his hunger.

    And the cycle goes on.

Although, I'm not sure this applies to all professions or trades.
