Lessons you can learn from the cult?

PLEASE NOTE: I'm not trying to say that this is ethical but, the study is pretty interesting.

I just found this great video on Youtube.

It was a study conducted by a copywriter.

Really interesting.

That peer pressure test was interesting. I would have liked to been in that test, I would call them out (WTH, is wrong with you people?).

Here's my favorite comment on Youtube for that video:

The conformity must be strong to get the men to have 70s hairstyles and clothes.

This sounds like every social group I've ever been in. It's totally true how people don't wish to feel the discomfort of disagreeing with the group. Just this last semester in college I questioned the claims of a writer in the 18th century and threw his entire writing into question but my entire class started getting pissed at me and yelling at me. They completely ignored the points of question I brought up and immediately assumed I was wrong.

LMAO at the shock test learner screaming in the other room, towards the end of the video.

I watched that video a 2nd time, it's amazing how 60-65% of the teachers willingly gave what they thought was a lethal shock to the learner (actor).

The teachers were all randomly picked (I suppose), that means the same test could be carried over to literally anything, I mean giving a lethal shock to someone has to be the most extreme thing that could be tested.

If that 60-65% shock test was representive of the worlds population, that means only 35-40% of the world is sane.

      Anthony,

If you want to learn from cults and MLMs, here's a two-part article that shows you exactly how a good speaker can brainwash his listeners using mostly NLP:

Watch T. Harv Eker Brainwash People Into Being Happy Part 1.

      He's brilliant at it too.

A few here know I was born 3rd generation into an American mind control cult - the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Technically speaking a sect rather than a cult but displaying all the typical traits of cult mind control.

It's my number one specialization - cult mind control and how to overcome it.

Before joining the Warrior Forum back in 2008 or thereabouts, I spent many years working on a voluntary basis helping others to free their mind of the emotional trappings of cult mind control where you're completely mentally paralyzed and unable to think for yourself without the Borg (Brooklyn Organization - Crooklyn) having a very strong say in all your thinking processes.

Needless to say, I'm not a JW anymore.

I left them, officially disfellowshipped (total excommunication) back in April of 1995 for daring to question the Governing Body of the Organization.

In fact, it was myself and a few other guys back in the very early days of the Internet who got the WTBTS (Watchtower Bible & Tract Society) the legal arm of the JW's kicked out of the United Nations around the turn of the century.

This is a website run by a friend of mine, a fellow Bethelite from New York HQ which deals with cult mind control.

Myself and one or two other volunteers helped with the SEO on this website a few years ago...

Concerning cult mind control, these sections of the above linked to website have some informative articles on the subject which one or two of you might enjoy reading...

A rather lengthy article a few of you might find interesting...

And here a book on cults and mind control from one of the world's leading authorities on the subject Freedom of Mind by Steve Hassan which information you can find out more about here:

Maybe some of you know this book.

The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass...The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass...

People like Milgram and Caldini honed in on individual reactions to certain stimuli.

Hoffer worked on how entire peoples can be shifted.

All much of a sameness really.

Ever seen the film The Wave? Based upon some US high school experiment. Film was remade a few years ago by a German film company and is set in a German school.

It was very controversial when it was remade at the time but it is a good film because it is like watching the kids move towards Nazism which maybe wouldn't happen in the original American set high school film until the end which I also watched.

Dude, that's a fascinating article, thanks Mark.

I remember reading about this back when I was in the ministry and studying cult psychology. Blew me away how much of this stuff is being used in the church too, especially in the charismatic churches.

Tom Lohr has some powerful stuff about the persuasion tactics of cults in his book "The Power of Story," Robert Greene's books teach lot of the same principles.

Anyone interested in this topic should check out some of the persuasion and mind control techniques used on prisoners of war, particularly in the Asian countries. The tactics used by the pioneers of communism are really interesting too.

Dark application, but the principles of persuasion can be used for bad or good and you can learn a lot from those who misused it.

Thank you Mark! - This is very interesting.

The power of persuasion has been for a very long time.
I'm about to dig some more articles and post some here on the thread.

I think these articles are something we should all be reading.

I mean just look at Frank Kern; He's the perfect example on how to implement these strategies to the online world. I'm sure there are more people as well.
