anyone have any suggestions on leads?

i guess thats what they're officially called?

(i just call it the first half of a vsl or sales letter)

I have an awesome good called great leads?

love it.

I'd love to get some samples, links or books or something.... spoke to a buddy of mine who works for agora, he said they hire very good copywriters and test like 3 leads.

something i never really thought about till testing vsl's really hardcore.

I think this is the only book specifically on leads:

  • Yes, I forgot all about that book.

It is good and more detailed than the one I mentioned.

Howdy Dave, It's been awhile since we've talked on Skype,
we'll have to do it again soon buddy.

You might get some insights from outside the internet universe,
like informercials and hard-core pitching to investors.

Here's the transcripts from Billy May...

    http://www.warriorforum.com/copywrit...anscribed.html

You may know Oren Klaff and his book Pitch Anything.

He took what he learnt from the PUA community
and used it for pitching investments to investors.

A typical day for him is bringing in a couple of million worth of investor money.

He has a set opening and lead in to all his pitches.

    Worth considering.

    Best,
    Ewen

amazing just how short the billy mays stuff is.... its so short.... but i think, selling an actual product is maybe easier than selling 'how to' information.

still amazing to see how little copy there is.

i mentioned the book great leads above.... good book.... thanks for the other one....

ewen, will check out oren's stuff.... haven't gotten to it yet.... i'm just in a VERY VERY difficult market, you need to bring your A game to make it, anyone who's attempted it will tell you.

Billy Mays relied heavily on demonstration. And within those demonstrations, contrast.

      Also, his enthusiasm was contagious.

Perfect combination for 2-minute TV commercials.

    Looks good Ewen...

And you're right Dave... It's all in demonstration.

Like the "23 cent life saver that surgeons don't tell you about".... something demonstrated in a way anyone going through surgery understands..

I think when it comes to e-books you should put wild claims that could be turned into smexy bullets... Something Schwartz would do..

And to build on top of it - add page numbers next to them.

Actually, in that 23cent package Clayton talks about how you can try the pill and when you pee into a cup you'll see the plaque... so that's actually a pretty good way to demonstrate and give some instant gratification...

I'm just talking, but let me know what you end up doing.

Masterton and Forde's "Great Leads" book is useful, and also goes well with AWAI training.

Another book I've found useful is called "Leads and Conclusions" (Leads & Conclusions (Elements of Article Writing): Marshall J. Cook: 9780898796612: Amazon.com: Books). While positioned as a reference for article leads, the advice is useful wherever a good lead is needed.
