Can't get much more direct than this.

Feeling snacky now, for some reason.

I think it's funny but I would guess it might be due to the actual trend of avoiding something so direct in today's copywriting world.

      This.

A direct message wouldn't have worked long ago when everyone was doing it. Nowadays, marketers are so indirect that directness stands out.

But that doesn't make it good marketing.

Imagine you were opening a bakery. Would you put faith in an advertisement that simply stated "We sell bread here; please buy it."?

Depends on how you position it. I can think of at least 5 different ways to evoke different emotions with those words simply by adding imagery. Not the least of which is the fact that a bakery sells bread - meaning they specialize in it. That's a platform too.

We sell great homemade bread - why don't you come in and buy some?

Could work just fine for a small local bakery. Especially considering the rubbish put in mass produced bread these days to give it shelf life.

Simple things which don't cost much don't require long winded messages.

One of the shops near me has Try Me, Buy Me. They do okay out of it.

Sort of a why not? response.

With any form of advertising - the person seeing the ad has to want the product before they will buy it. Sometimes people buy to try but often they have heard about the product in some way before hand.

I'll add that we need to go back into the context of the copywriting world. When I really think about it, the only negative thing I can say about an approach like this is that it expresses frustration (in a subtle, funny way).

When indirect messages becomes the norm yet it's the goal of marketing to grab attention, I can't tell if the picture I see is either a paradox or an oxymoron. Somehow I imagine people creating messages like this were surrounded by everything that was overused that they raised their hands up saying, "Ugh! That's it!" before scribbling this down on a board and slamming it outside their store.

But despite that, perhaps it's best to save it as a last resort.
