Question about your website and online portfolio...

I'm just curious how many of you who specialize in copywriting, and have your own website dedicated to it, display your portfolio of previous work?

Do you just take snap images of segments of what you've done and put them up as image files, or do you put up documents, PDF's etc. etc.

Just curious how you do this and what is recommended?

I provide a link to previous work I've done mostly
hosted on my own website. I've found that when
I link to past client sites they may later change the
copy that doesn't represent my work so now I
place the letter on my own site.

I know other copywriters make a file that they
offer to the prospective client on a request basis
to develop a point of contact.

The majority of my work is protected by NDA's. I'm the one who usually brings the subject up - just so there's total transparency.

My best work isn't even copy I can show prospects. However, I still don't post links or a portfolio on my website. It potentially undermines those clients by having my name associated with it and also allows people to swipe it, which I'm not down with. I do show prospects some of my work - if I feel they're serious about working with me. But honestly, my best clients never asked. I made a genuine connection with them and closed the sale (selling my services) on the back of how I communicate what I can accomplish for their business.

Everyone has their own process (and integrity levels.)

My clients are protective of what I write,
      therefore don't want it divulged.

One guy tried to find out what I wrote
by Skyping a client. He told him not even if he paid him $10,000.

Those that ask are the ones new to my world.
I let them talk to my clients who are happy to take their calls.

My clients mostly come from the offline world where direct mail and cold e-mails
      are used to sell services.

      Best,
      Ewen

I dont publish my portfolio on my website either. However, I have them on my ipad and when the client want to look at it, I will show them.
