Hello,

I am creating a website for a friend who is a life coach. He is going to have a homepage, about page, coaching page (page he offers his services), blog and contact.

Is there an effective copy for a multiply page format like this? I am trying to get them interested in visiting the coaching page to buy his services.

Here's the problem with life coaches, they don't narrow down to one problem, one group,
therefore their message isn't relevant to anyone.

If for example, he coaches parents of troublesome teens,
then there would be a ready market for his message.

He needs to get the messaging right before the technical part of a website.

    Best,
    Ewen

Too funny Ewen, here's a PM I sent to a coaching client just
      last week...

      --------------

      Hey _____,

I also forgot to mention... that you'll want to be careful with the "life coach" thing.

Not that it's NOT a good market, it is... but a lot of clients have come to me because it was tough to market their "life coaching" site. they weren't sure who to target.

so, what you'll want to do is focus on a particular area of a person's life that you can help them in... and position yourself as a life coach for that area of their life.

for example, a life coach who focuses more on peoples' relationships.

or a life coach who focuses more on someones finances, or health, or career, etc....

being ultra specific and going after a more specific area will allow you to become the known player in that market... instead of just being lumped together with the rest of the life coaches.

when you focus on a particular area you can help people with... word gets out very quick.

for example, when i sold my fitness businesses and started copywriting, i positioned myself as the fitness copywriting guy. that first year i got over 40 jobs writing fitness related copy.

i became known as the fitness copywriter.

so, the same applies with life coaches...

it's a tough gig to market... because it can seem pretty broad.

your best bet is to focus on one area and become the best at helping people with that... that way it's so much easier to position and market yourself as the solution to those things.

anyways, just wanted to give you my experience with that...

      ------------------------------

Ewen, I honestly feel that a lot of "life coaches" would skyrocket their businesses if they focused on one particular area of life they could help others in... and become known as the expert in that specific niche... rather than trying to "be everything to everyone"

I come from an area where everyone and their mother is a Life Coach.

Most of them aren't very good at it. There are a lot of people who instead of making something of themselves, they try to make a living telling other people what to do. (Or guiding them)

Anyway, that's neither here nor there.

Niching yourself in this flooded, convoluted market is extremely important.

But simply focusing on relationships or manifesting abundance isn't enough. You have to really position yourself as the creator of a unique program that nobody else offers.

    And obviously...

You're the authority of this program.

My wife does Life Purpose Coaching. And she makes quite a nice little living doing it. She developed a Numerology-based program that niches her... in a niche. If you catch my drift.

    The bottom line is...

You can't put up a generic Life Coaching website and expect to get ANY results.

What is your client passionate about?

What kind of people does he/she help the most?

Help him/her find the right niche to focus all of your collective efforts.

    Otherwise...

    You're just wasting your time.

Putting up a website without understanding the marketing and lead generation strategy behind it is pretty much a waste of time. (Unless all he's interested in is a brochure site.)

Here are a couple strategic quesions to get the ball rolling:

Where is the website traffic going to come from? Offline? Online? Social media?

What does the funnel look like? How will people go from being a lead, to a suspect, to a prospect, to a qualified prospect, to a Client?

How is the coach going to go from being unknown, to known, to followed, to trusted enough to be engaged?

PS: The simplest thing you can do for now to put up a simple WordPress blog and have your coach start generating thought provoking content and then occasionally alert people and make offers of various kinds.

Google "top life coach blogs" for ideas.

  • It seems that recently Life Coach = Accountability Pal. Maybe you will be the force behind your client establishing a niche.

I have worked with a lot of Therapists over the years and I find that the broader the spectrum of services or what they "think" is their specialty, the worst their conversion rate. All in all, no one is great at EVERYTHING. Is there something this coach is doing that you can hone in on?
