Writing Copy for a Software

Hi there,

i'd like to know what is the best way to go around writing copy for a software?

How would you break it down, what all would you discuss and in what order... stuff I should and should not do.....

Any input would be highly valued....

You need to first answer what problem or need the software
addresses and why it has not been 'solved' before and how
    the software solves this problem.

You would also need to DEMONSTRATE how easily your
software solves this problem for the end user.

But software really sells itself. If you can give a limited time
trial then sell the prospect on downloading and trying the
software then that's your best bet. So instead of selling
the software directly you SELL DOWNLOADING a
    trial version.

Agreed, selling software is about demonstration. I've yet to see long form sells letters that can sell software without demonstration. Best bet, be clear on:

      1) What problem is solves
      2) Who it's for
      3) Support available (HUGE)
      4) How user friendly it is
      5) How secure and dependable the platform is

      Best,

    Hi Mark,

First off, get very clear who this software is for.
Know more about this one persons life than any other alternative software supplier.

Then you talk about and show understanding
    what his daily problem
he has that your software solves.

Then you talk about the other alternatives he has
    to fix the problem
    and their weaknesses.

You do this to slam the readers exit door shut
    and he only has you
as the one and only choice.

    The sequence is...
    problem
    problem with alternatives
your easy to understand unique solution
    your easy to understand offer

    Best,
    Ewen

Focus on the outcome after the user has used the software. How would you describe the outcome situation after using the software? Think about the emotions of this. Then work backwards through a story structure from the problem -> outcome scenario. Benefits and then talk about the features and what the software does. Also do not forget to show screenshots and descriptions of screenshots.

I would also suggest searching around for near competitors. Identify the main ones who you see as selling a lot and learn from what they are doing.

  • If you can share... what kind of software and industry? How have you marketed it so far? What has worked? What hasn't worked? Have you tried multiple price points?

Its a keyword research tool... its simple yet it is unique in the way it extracts its info... most softwares will pull the keyword results from the user's local browser..

example: i like cakes a lot and have done a lot of google search on it....

if i will type in 'chocolate' in google... the top keywords google will pick will have 'chocolate cake' cause google knows i like cakes.... however its not necesarry that everyone likes cakes.... so if i use my tool to run the same search, google will pull the result " chocolate ice cream" cause thats what more people are looking for......

most softwares will pull 'chocolate cake'... mine will pull 'chocolate ice cream'

      get it?

i realized this flaw when i used to do my keyword researchers for adowrds campaigns....... hired a coder and got this developed.......

I havent tried anything before... going to launch it soon

You don't need a slick sales letter.

Clearly explain what the software does and why using it beneficial.

Record screen videos of the software in action (or use screenshots if appropriate).

Add testimonials and reviews if you have them.

Tell customers how to buy it.

I agree, learn to write copy, but hire a copy writer if you are planning on launching your software very soon.

What may also help you is taking a snapshot of other sales letters, reading them, and than writing your own version just for practice.

tie it into a scheme or system of how it is used. Write an ebook around the method and include it.
