Unexpected Inspiration From a Classic...

For some reason, last night I copied Joe Karbo's "The Lazy Man's Way to Riches" ad by hand (it must've been all the reruns on TV, I dunno).

From another post on this forum, I know what Karbo was promoting, as well as what the product was about (I thought it was a copywriting course), so I won't rehash.

Handwriting an ad is something I'd heard for a really long time, but had never done, even though I'd read some classic ads.

The process revealed interesting things, like "Oh, he's painting a future for his readers" or "He's addressing objections" or my favorite part of the ad "Joe, you may be full of beans, but what have I got to lose?"

Maybe that process is where the power is.

Would typing an ad would provide similar benefits to actual writing (the paper and ink costs alone--)?

Appreciate your input.

How will you discover who you are and your key strengths as a copywriter with your own unique voice when you copy out other copywriters unrelated pitches by hand?

Sure you might implant in your mind (eventually) some cool psychological persuasion and influence techniques but these techniques will never be your own whilst writing in someone elses voice for a completely separate product.

I only wanted to absorb the techniques in the ad. Maybe studying copywriting books would be a better way to do that.

Thanks for taking time out to respond.
