Hello I posted this in the offline marketing portion and I figured since a lot of what copy has to do with is getting people to take action, you all might be able to shine some light on this for me too!

Just like the title states. I am thinking of doing a direct mailing of letters for insurance related products and was wondering what people thought of mailing out the letters with my business card in it but the business card is a hard plastic so it feels like a credit card/gift card, so as to increase open rates. Experienced marketers tell me what you think especially if you have tried it before! I thank and appreciate all who respond in advance!

If you want to get your envelope opened... don't make it look like all the other junk mail that gets tossed.

Make it seem like it's coming from Grandma or someone personal. White envelope, your street address, town, and zip in the top left corner... and the person's name/address preferably hand written.

So, no teaser copy on the outside... although I've used "Your Special Report Inside" with okay results, and "Your Special Gift Inside" did okay as well, but the best returns for me using direct mail have always been making the envelope seem like it's coming from someone personal.

I worked with a loan company and they got a 30% higher response with a mailing and the first thing they did, was change the envelope like I mentioned above.

Lumpy mail (as it's called) has proven to increase envelope open rates.

Shoot, when I get one, I know the purpose of that mysterious "thing" I feel in there... and I still open the dang envelope! LOL
