Running a Direct Mail Campaign - Face Obstacle, Help Needed

Hi all,

I am planning to run a direct mail campaign and is facing a problem. We are planning to send 'lumpy' mails to prospects who are running ads on magazines and newspaper.

Problem is, we can't find their marketing directors or person in charge on their website. How would you go about doing it?

I would check whois data, since in 90%of the time the whois admin contact is the guy who manages the site.

    Easy!

Ring the company and tell them you are putting a portfolio of CEOs together for relevant magazines/business sectors and that you would really love to include them.
Its an "under the counter" resource list for other business owners, kinda like a private roladex to be distributed amongst the "chosen few"
You must say that its purely volentary and that there no pressure but as its for business people its preferable to have a high level contact within their group.
Its a little bit naughty but you definately will get favorable responses and most of the time I find you will get the contact details of not only the top brass but also the actual "organ grinder" so to speak. Try it, it works.

To my knowledge, the only list software that provides contact info for marketing directors is Hoover's (D&B). However, the information isn't always updated to the current employee. There's a lot of turnover in marketing departments.

Have you tried something like Simpson Direct? He's Dan Kennedy's go-to guy for direct mail lists.

  • It's always good to send the shot to a "named" person - it usually increases the response by 30%.

But if it's an expensive song and dance to find the names causing all sorts of delays with no certainty that the "name" is current (and using the wrong name is beyond despair).

And as you're sending a lumpy "grabber" which increases the "open the package" rate by 60% - 100%.

You could just get on with it and send them to "The Esteemed Website Owner"

Fated82, you never replied or thanked
responders to 2 posts asking for help
      in the Offline section.

Not replying gives the impression you
      are a lost cause.

      Best,
      Ewen
